It's been a long off-season!  Who all is going?  Any of you webcrawlers have a stream for this?  I know last year, there was a pretty bad stream, but it was better than nothing!  Go Hoosiers!

  3. Turns out I'm not smart enough. I thought of that, but as far as I could tell my option is then setting up my phone to record my TV and using periscope to broadcast that. If I could do it another way, I couldn't figure out how.   And, I'm not doing that. I don't need everyone listening to my repeated explanations to my kid that there are no touchdowns in basketball and to try yelling "basket" or "2-points" instead. And when daddy stands up with his arms in the air, he's just anticipating a three pointer which is flying through the air and looks good. Yes honey, I understand it's confusing. No, we're not turning this off and watching Anna and Elsa.

They curb-stomped the Murray Racers.   Baylor is a very high level team this year. I wonder if it was a 16 point win that was a six point lead with three minutes to go, or a 16 win that was 25 with three minutes to go.   The Gee Gees are dangerous when they're shooting it well. Don't expect a cupcake level opponent, or a cupcake level final score folks.

  7. I'll be in AH tomorrow night and I'm really excited about this season. Exhibition games usually aren't that competitive, but this Ottawa team should be a better test. I do have a question about entering Assembly Hall from the south end. I will be parking in the lot south of Cook and I was wondering what's the best plan to enter. Has construction completely eliminated the public entrance from the south?

  8. To be fair, I think the limit on the freshmen is mostly precautionary. I'm not aware of OG or Morgan having any injury. I think Crean said their limit was more to not overwhelm them, or something to that effect. Also said JB2 is having a bit of soreness in his knee. Hartman is who concerns me the most at this point

  20. Osterman tweeted that it's likely this year that a 5 - 7 record will make some teams bowl eligible because it's unlikely there will be a sufficient number of teams with 6 -6 records to fill a total of 40 bowl games.  His tweet cited the following which is from a Nebraska sportswriter   http://www.omaha.com/huskers/could---nebraska-make-a-bowl-game-why-yes/article_1e600244-7bf1-11e5-8dd6-c325606df17d.html   and that article contains a link to a 2012 CBS sports article:  http://www.cbssports.com/collegefootball/eye-on-college-football/19719427/you-may-see-a-5-7-bowl-team-in-the-future   I'm not smart enough to try to figure out if the Hoosiers could be one such team if we finished the year at 5 - 7.  But in my old and cranky opinion, if 5 wins is the best we can do, we don't deserve a bowl game appearance.   And in a follow-up tweet, Osterman indicated our multi-year APR for last year was 977.

  22. Charlotte Hornets general manager Rich Cho announced Monday that, on top of the contract extension the team gave Jeremy Lamb, the Hornets picked up the fourth-year team option on forward Cody Zeller. Zeller, who has drafted fourth overall by the then-Charlotte Bobcats, has averaged 6.7 points, 5 rebounds and 1.3 assists per game while shooting 44.3 percent from the floor and 75.1 percent from the charity stripe. The former Indiana starter has made steady improvement over his brief NBA career, and the team clearly values the energy and athleticism he brings to the squad. The option is worth a little more than $5.318 million, according to BasketballReference.com. It has been quite the 24 hours for Zeller. Just before the team officially announced that they were picking up the option, Rick Bonnell of the Charlotte Observer reported that Zeller had unexpectedly lost 10 pounds and is questionable for Tuesday night's showdown with the Chicago Bulls. He has tested negative for mono, which is a positive sign, but is still undergoing medical tests.   The move is not exactly surprising, but it is nice to see a player who has worked as hard as Zeller has to be properly rewarded for his efforts. He has worked to improve his shooting range and continues to be a valuable source of energy on both offense and defense for the Hornets. http://www.atthehive.com/2015/11/2/9660210/hornets-exercise-fourth-year-option-on-cody-zeller

  24. Tried to figure out how to stream my BTN+ for some of you guys here. Failed to make any inroads. I'm working on seeing if I can just stream the audio since I don't think there is radio coverage but am not really getting good results there either.   I'll do a search tomorrow and see if I can find any streams and link them. I have doubts, BTN+ games were the only games without streams last year. If I find any it likely will be after the game starts, since I get home from work right about tip-off time.   For the game itself; definitely concerned about JBJ's minute limits. His shot hasn't looked the same and to hear his knee is still bothering him makes me very nervous like I previously expressed in a thread. It's a shame the game won't be fully reflective of our team's abilities with all the limits though.    Whatever. Still crazy excited. April to November is the longest part of the year.

  40. Which really stinks for us, considering the position we are in when speaking of CKW's contract situation. He needs to be extended or fired. I'm not sure he has earned an extension. If you would have asked me last year, I would have staunchly opposed firing him. He brought some excitement to the program. He recruited well and has a high octane offense. This season has weakened my support of CKW significantly though, like a boxer being worn down by taking body shots for an entire match. The defense is downright embarrassing and makes it hard for me to watch. They are so predictable that I dont need to watch the game to know whats going to happen. Sadly I dont think this is going to change until we pony up and pay top notch assistants competitive wages. I really do want CKW to succeed.  He's one stubborn defense away from having a team that can beat the big boys on a regular basis. Has to be frustrating for him, I imagine.

  41. The 2015 Haunted Hall of Hoops featured two 10-minute periods and a third period that was about six minutes. Collin Hartman, Juwan Morgan, Thomas Bryant, Tim Priller, Nick Zeisloft, Yogi Ferrell and Robert Johnson made up the white team while the red team had James Blackmon Jr., Troy Williams, Max Bielfeldt, Harrison Niego, Ryan Burton and Josh Newkirk. This event likely provided a better glimpse of who can provide what this season than Hoosier Hysteria, though it should still absolutely be taken with a grain of salt. With that said, after about 25 minutes of basketball plenty of observations and logical deductions can be made. While Blackmon Jr. was the leading scorer with 17 points, Anunoby stole the show with his active hands on defense and athletic finishes at the rim that netted him 15 points. Bryant and Ferrell also finished with 15 points while Williams had 11 and Bielfeldt scored nine to go along with nine rebounds. What can we expect out of Anunoby this year? He wasn’t highly rated coming out of high school. Most of the fan base has no expectation for significant contributions to be made by him in his first season. But after a scrimmage where he intercepted passes, tipped balls, defended well AND showed the ability to run the floor well, that may change. Associate Head Coach Tim Buckley said for Anunoby to see the floor he must understand his strengths and weaknesses. “The speed of the game is something every freshman has to get used to,” Buckley said. “You see how guys listen and how they understand… I think there will be development thanks to practice, the film room, and things like that.” It would be silly to expect the kind of production he had Saturday afternoon during the regular season, but if he can even just bring the same intensity to the defensive side of the floor, Anunoby could find himself getting quite a bit of playing time. Fellow freshman Bryant scored 15 points as well. He, however, did not have the dominating performance he had during Hoosier Hysteria. There are two ways to look at Bryant’s display at Haunted Hall of Hoops. On one hand, he didn’t play anywhere near his best game and still scored 15 points. He was sloppy at times, committed fouls, and looked a bit uncomfortable. If he can grind out a performance like that during a bad day, he could exceed his freshman expectations. On the other hand, the first game is 13 days away. Bryant is by far the best big man IU has and he was taken advantage of at times by fifth year transfer Bielfeldt who was never overly impressive at Michigan. The question has to be raised: how much of Bryant’s development was stunted by all the time he has missed in the preseason at the hands of a foot injury? For this team to have any success, Bryant must find his groove by the time conference play starts. As previously mentioned, Bielfeldt more than held his own against a five star talent who is taller than him by two or three inches. Any fan who agonized over the Hoosiers’ defensive woes in the paint last season will appreciate a smart player who knows the ins and outs of the Big 10 play. He was one point and one rebound away from recording a double-double against the team’s best post defender. That presence, which Buckley called poise in the post, will be needed to add depth in the front-court. It cannot be understated how valuable the perspective of a fifth year player is in an otherwise very young group. Blackmon Jr. looked smooth bringing the ball up the court against pressure from Johnson. He looked even smoother hitting several threes. Buckley says Blackmon Jr. is still recovering from his injury. “He has done a terrific job bouncing back mentally and physically,” Buckley said. “He is playing more at the point where he is initiating the offense and getting used to guys getting into him, but he has always had a really nice stroke and that hasn’t changed much.” Blackmon Jr. also appeared to be more aggressive, driving with much more strength than he did at times last season. Conversely, Williams didn’t look like the Hoosier Hysteria 3-point shooting contest winner. While he played well by all accounts, fans may want to temper their expectations for him this year. While the athleticism is undeniable, he still doesn’t look to have taken the same sophomore to junior year leap of Victor Oladipo that fans have been clamoring for. The scrimmage also showcased one look that fans begged for at times last year- a press. There was plenty of full court pressing, albeit soft at times. Buckley said it is a strategy that makes the most of Indiana’s athleticism. “We want to be able to use our athleticism and our length,” Buckley said. “But we don’t want to get out of position so we really have to keep our chests in front of the ball handlers and not let them into the paint.” There were plenty of opportunities last year where a press would have been beneficial, but it never came to fruition. This year, Buckley says, it may be an option. “The guys are starting to do a much better job of covering for each other,” Buckley said. “Our guys are understanding those rotations better.” Part of why so many fans wanted a press was the distinct height disadvantage Indiana often found themselves in. This year, that may not be such a problem as the staff believes their personnel allows them to matchup with teams much better. “Basketball is becoming more and more of a matchup game than a position game, so you pretty much are who you can guard,” Buckley added. “You could see Max and Thomas on the floor at the same time along with Collin (Hartman) and I think we have a lot of possibilities to be a versatile team.” At the end of the day, this is another scrimmage and it certainly won’t be indicative of how the season will go. However, there were some refreshing changes in philosophy and a lot of growth in player’s individual games. There is a lot of reason to believe that this team won’t be the same as last year’s with a few different faces. Indiana has two more exhibition games before it kicks off its season against Eastern Illinois on November 13 in Bloomington.

  42. How much of a profit would we make? Smaller schools lose money on these games, and I can't imagine we'd take much of a crowd at 5-7.

  43. Yeah, in my opinion any chance at more money/building the program you have to take. We have nothing to lose by losing a bowl game. May as well go and get players experience preparing for one and a nice chunk of change for playing

  45. My article up above is about that situation this year. Written before Saturday's games, so we're actually in a better position now for it since some teams we needed to lose lost. There are 6 teams ahead of us in APR who could possibly pull together a 5-7 record, but it's pretty unlikely for 5 of them now. Rutgers is the team to watch for that situation. I mean, it's still possible for multiple 5-7 teams, but you always want to be the first choice.

  48. Want an example of when it took a good coach 5 years to get a dumpster fire in a power house conference to even resemble a real team? Cutclife at Duke. After going 15-33 in his first four years, he snuck them into a bowl game with 6 wins and lost. The following year? 10-4. Then 9-4. Currently 6-1. Not saying K-Dub will be able to pull off the same success, but I'll definitely argue we'd be jumping the gun when we have visible improvements that just require you to look beyond the W column.

i very much enjoy watching this team, and I make no apologies for it.  Don't berate/degrade someone for their opinion.  It's a fun team to watch.  I've talked with other B1G fans (not IU) who have commented that IU is watchable for the first time in years.  Sorry if you don't agree, but don't make others feel inferior for their opinions.

  50. Unfortunately, as long as it takes, even if we change coaches. I'm not sure Tre as a true freshman was actually any better.    Going to address a few points from this entire thread, and even points I may have read elsewhere, so this isn't all about your point.    First, is recruiting. You can make the argument that recruiting has plateaued, but its hard to say that its slipping. Class size is extremely important in looking at team rankings from the recruiting services. Not sure why, but the 48th place class in 2013 as listed by 247 included 31 players, Rivals lists 26 recruits that year, and ranked the class 38th. This years class was ranked 49th (Rivals) or 51st (247) with 22 or 23 players respectively. The difference in class size alone is going to make a difference of a few spots. Either way, it would not have equaled the two earlier classes without the addition of several higher rated players. So you can make the argument that we slipped a bit last year, but its hard to justify calling it a trend. As far as this year goes, who cares at this point. As someone who follows IU football recruiting heavily, I can tell you that under CKW and staff, they are far more inclined to take commitments later, rather than earlier, and have no problem pursuing the recruits they want right up till they sign on the dotted line. Based on what I've picked up this year, IU is actively recruiting and getting plenty of interest from some very good recruits. How this class turns out is very much up in the air. However, if your only metric is team rankings for the class, it is most likely going to slip also, as its very likely at this point that this recruiting class is going to be several schollies less than any of the previous few years, and unless we have more attrition than expected, probably smaller than any I can find records on.   Second, I'm not sure that the idea of finding a defensive minded coach is any cure for the Hoosiers, it would definitely be a way of addressing our weakest point, but also would not take advantage of where are strengths are. You could argue that point back and forth forever, its pretty subjective. I'm just pointing it out.   Third, looking at the defense overall, I'm disappointed, but not surprised. There only a few bright points I see at this point. Our D-line is decent against the run, our defense has done their part in TO margin, although limited TO's from the offense should get the most credit, (Tied for 10th in FBS), and our red zone defense is respectable. The red zone defense is a bit misleading because so much of the scoring against IU is done from outside the red zone. The part that doesn't surprise me is the secondary. They were always a unknown heading into the season, and now that we "know" them, its hard to have even mediocre expectations. They show a lot of potential, but in any decent defensive team, that potential would be developed on the practice field for a season or two with limited playing time. Some great instincts, good potential, but its telling that it takes a trip to the locker room to get them focused to play for another 10-15 minutes. The best thing about freshmen is that it only lasts that one year.    Fourth, I'd point out that Coach Knorr has done pretty well as a DC in prior positions. And its not like he was at football powerhouses where he had a lot of great pieces to work with. I suspect, if he gets the opportunity, he'll do pretty good here also. I don't know how many times I've heard football coaches say, "Its not the x's and O's, its the Jimmies and Joes." I actually see potential for a decent D here, question is, will it get time to develop under this staff, or given time, will they develop it? Defensively, I really wish we had had a decent DC instead of Doug sooner, I think we would have developed quicker.   I could go one making arguments all day long, but those are just a few that have stood out to me. Several more I can't remember at the moment. My conclusions are probably more interesting anyway. Here they are.   At this point IU is 4-3. Injuries to Howard and Suds aside, we really needed a win in one of those 3 losses. Making a bowl game is a lot tougher at this point than it looked after a 4-0 start. It requires 2 wins either on the road and/or against tough ranked teams. (BTW, kudos to Harbaugh for UM's run at this point, as I was a real doubter that he would make that much of a difference that quick.) This team is capable of winning any of its last 5 games. Its also capable of losing all 5.    Lose all 5, and I'd say Glass consider keeping CKW for one more year, but its a hard sell no matter if you want to or not, and I really can't see it happening. Its still a hard sell if we only win 1 more and play competitive in the other 4. If we actually get 2 more wins, its got to be a automatic that he's back. What we need however, is to see enough to justify an extension. Sending this staff on the recruiting trail in the last two years of CKW's contract is a extremely tough row to hoe. He will be negatively recruited (and already is) because no recruit can realistically look at this staff being their coaches for 4 years, and that's often a huge selling point, particularly at a school with no record of football success.   You can look at all that as a defense of the staff, you can find negatives to justify canning CKW. Bottom line is this. There are 5 more games, and if they do what they need to out on the field the can kill all the speculation of a coaching change, or harden it into solid rock. At this point, just win.
