A buddy of mine told me rumor has it that Carson Beck tore his UCL in his elbow and is done for the season. Grapevine stuff, so take it with a grain of salt.

They also lost their starting punter, who was up for the Ray Guy Award.  Having knee surgery.

Saw the same thing on Twitter.

Beck was pretty mid this year so not sure how much this really hurts them.

He wasn't as good as he should have been.  But he still threw for 3500 yards and 26 touchdowns.

Losing your starting QB in the playoffs is a huge loss.  Their backup has only thrown 51 passes in his entire career.

So, how were the tickets for this game with Notre Dame decimated? Were a block of tickets made available at face value to IU, and were there some tickets made available to the general public at face value? I mean I assume Notre Dame season ticket holders were able to buy tickets at face?

Face value for tickets offered in the IU allotment of 3,500 tickets is $160 for lower level and $100 for upper level.

I know they're a couple days old, but just saw some more comments from whiny SEC fusspots like Nick Saban and Shane Beamer, along with more IU, SMU and Boise State bashing from the sordid SEC fan base. So, according to their formula, this is the rightful CFP field:

1. Georgia 11-2
2. Mississippi State 2-10
3. Kentucky 4-8
4. Oklahoma 6-6
5. Florida 7-5
6. Purdue 1-11
7. Michigan 7-5
8. Vanderbilt 6-6
9. Washington 6-6
10. LSU 8-4
11. Texas A&M 8-4
12. UCLA 5-7

Those schools, according to the College Football Power Index on ESPN, have the top 12 strength of schedules. And apparently, that's all that matters. Winning games does not.

I saw this headline and thought it might be an interesting look at the game, comparing the 2 teams and looking at how the strengths and weaknesses of each match up. Nope. More of the same just talking about schedule.

Our wins against Michigan and Washington are Meaningless I tell you.  Meaningless

And in the crazy scenario you laid out Alabama still wouldn’t be in the playoff!!

Thoughts on the draw: give the road route (that should be for debate as well) this is the best possible draw. Play a Notre Dame team that relies heavily on the run. Key is going to be containing Riley Leonard. Win that, and you play a Georgia team struggling on offense right now. Their OLine isn't great, run game has been inconsistent, and most likely their backup QB. Their defense is very good. Probably best of the possible teams left. What's odd is Georgia got the Sugar Bowl (NOLA) and not Peach Bowl (ATL). Then, semifinals would be SMU/Penn State or Boise State. You could argue that game would be the least challening.

OSU game might be somewhat of a blessing. Listening to Cig on ESPN talk about things he would do differently this time.

Exactly. Anyone that is arguing for Bama should be ashamed. I watched the OU game and they got absolutely bent over (with no lube) in that game. A .500 Oklahoma team dominated them in every facet and it wasn't nearly as close as the score. They also dropped a game to an average Vandy team. I don't care if they beat the '85 Bears, they are disqualified. In fact, their program should get the death penalty for a couple of years to think about what they did. So freaking over the SEC worship.

Not only did Bama get drilled by Oklahoma it was after a win over Mercer and before their final game against a very mediocre Auburn.  They can’t cry about the SEC meat grinder, that they always whine about, when the game prior to Oklahoma  was at home against MERCER.

PS. We played 4 of the teams, in the list of 12 toughest schedules, and went 4-0. According to Bama/Finebaum criteria we should be the #1 seed with a bye.

Anybody else with Bama's results isn't sniffing the CFP. It's like people just can't grasp how Bama doesn't own college football anymore.

This! I'm not even sure what the discussion was about? One of Bama's "ranked" wins is Missouri... yawn!

Instead of 12 teams next year maybe the committee should rank every D1 team and then decide how many teams to include in the playoff based on how Bama does.

3 examples:

If Alabama is the 15th ranked team then the playoff will have 15 teams with Bama getting a bye.

If Alabama is the 22nd ranked  team then the playoff will have 22 teams with Bama getting a bye.

If Alabama is the 38th ranked team then the playoffs will have 38 teams with Bama getting a bye.

Seems like a simple, fair solution.

I wonder if a lot of these issues would go away if they got rid of the weekly ranking show. Maybe drop something like the NET to give people an idea of how teams may be sorted, but you only see the bracket when it drops on Sunday. No CFP poll, just coaches and AP, and then some sort of metric that isn’t a true poll. Think FPI or something like that. I may be missing something here though.

ESPN probably gets big ratings on that Tuesday show so obviously it won’t go away, but imagine the CBB selection committee dropping a tentative bracket through January and February. It would be a disaster.

Report on Dawgnation.com is that he is getting a second opinion, so I would assume the UCL rumor is true.  And if it's true, it doesn't matter what opinion any doctor offers him, he can't throw.

Belichick to UNC?

Current rumor is that UNC has made a big push but Belichick has not agreed to anything.

Another rumor out there is that the hang up might be that Belichick basically wants complete control of the football program with no interference from the athletic department...and that could be his way of trying to set his son up to inherit the position.

Belichick will be 73 by the time next season starts. Why is it so hard for that generation to just retire and be done with it?

Probably desperate to end his career on a high note since it’s clear, he was riding Brady‘s coat tails
