Dad & son contract with the Shanghai Sharks

That would be a blessing. I still can’t believe we went zoned down 9-10 with season on the line with 10 minutes to go. Maybe he wanted season to be over too?

Devries old team even is about to have the same record as us and he got an even later start with much less money. Just a terrible season

They’re about the same in metrics too. The idea that Devries did anything special there last year is not looking good.

The worst case scenario on DDV in my book is he is a career assistant who became a winning coach on the back of his son in a mid major conference. Is he in over his head? Would hope Dolson's process screens for that in a way, but I guess you get a bogey or 2 after Cig. Maybe he does really change a lot going into year 2 and gets on the Golden track... we will just have to see.

I think in addition to Dusty May, we're gonna be lamenting letting Josh Shertz get away.

Love schertz but even he struggled his first year away from the valley last year in a worse league and also lost to Devries in the MVC tourney. Maybe a source of hope? I’m not really sure

DeVries has 1 more year to sell something of hope…. If he doesn’t he should be gone. Year 3 would be last year all over again. I think DeVries has to totally clean house roster wise.

Yea.  ~$16M buyout after season two.  That's a lot to fork out, but with offsets and such it's probably doable.  Though I'm not sure what IU would do.

He is gonna get at least one more crack at it though.  Maybe he somehow figures it out, slim as those chances may be.

The worst part is that this year was a completely wasted one. No culture. No player development. No real vision for the future. We have to start over from scratch once again.

Nobody to build around on the roster.

Agree 100%.  Cut bait if 2 bad seasons in a row in the NIL era.  Get a coach that has something to sell and some enthusiasm.

His first Drake tourney team didn’t have his kid. It did have a bunch of Indiana kids though. Looking at his profile this summer, that gave me hope.

He just looks way in over his head. Coaching at Indiana is so much more than about coaching basketball. the late great Lou Holtz had a quote about that about coaching at Notre Dame, and about how the hardest part wasn’t the actual coaching. Guys like Archie, and maybe Devries, are just small time. It’s why I was adamantly against Beard…no way that loser can handle the crucible that is IU.

I think he gets 3 no matter what unfortunately.  Woodson/Archie path incoming. Cut bait one year early.

Why is it so easy for adamant fans to see  it in year 1 but not decision makers. Dolson talked him up so much on the weekly show this week. What is it he sees that none of us do

That’s why adamant fans aren’t decision makers. There’s massive financial obligations and implications when you fire a coach, especially after one year. This isn’t a video game.

Not you, that’s been mentioned by a bunch of people. Here and other places.

The question is: did they suck or were they building something? Devries stunk this year even independent of the roster. And we’re not bringing anything back. Wanna compare him to Golden (because Hurley and Underwood didn’t even start in the NIL era)? Ok, go land an all star guard in the portal plus two pro level bigs and win a title in the next two years. Because that’s what Golden did.

Comparing him to Kelsey and McCollum and Odom is being nice because they haven’t done much except be competent in year 1. But people don’t like those comparisons.

That first Golden team even though they were worse than this first DDV team had a couple pros that he kept and gave them continuity and some semblance of building something from the get go — Will Richard who stayed 3 years, was big in the natty, then went in the 2nd round and Castleton who averaged like 20 points a game before going pro after Golden’s 2nd season

He has more than one more year.  This school is very consistent on at least that thing.
