HoosierHoopster Posted November 1, 2025 Posted November 1, 2025 Nice land, already a nice player and one with a lot of upside. Welcome aboard Quote

WayneFleekHoosier Posted November 1, 2025 Posted November 1, 2025 Should be a nice multi year guy. Same with Prince. This team will need some serious Contributors out of the portal but this is a solid long term addition with big upside. Quote
ziggyiu Posted November 1, 2025 Posted November 1, 2025 Congrats to the young man and his family. Congrats to CDD and his staff. Nice pick up late in the cycle. Quote

HoosierHoopster Posted November 2, 2025 Posted November 2, 2025 From Finklestein: "Karvala is loaded with glaring upside," Finkelstein wrote. "He’s a big, nearly 6-foot-7 wing with a pretty shooting stroke from downtown. He runs well, covers the court, and can rise-up explosively to play above the rim. The key is putting it all together consistently and efficiently in order to impact winning to the highest degree. "While this was a breakout grassroots season for Karvala, he averaged 14 points per game on just 38% shooting from the floor and 34% from behind the arc, while attempting roughly two-third of his total from three. There’s no question that Karvala is a projectable shooter. "He has a smooth release and showed versatility in his shot-making – on the move, running to the arc in transition, and being particularly good off the dribble. There were times though when his shot could get a little flat or when he could disappear altogether for stretches and not impact the game quite as much as someone with his talent should." From Crimson Quarry: Karvala fits the mold of the kind of player DeVries has seemed to prioritize at Indiana in that he’s a wing with positional versatility, athleticism to get up and down the court while playing above the rim and an ability to shoot the ball from long range. -- lot of reason to believe he'll thrive under DeVries' coaching, in his system. Composite ranking #42 overall Home Jersey, cybergates, J34 and 3 others 6 Quote

Composite ranking #42 overall Really happy about this pick up. Perhaps it's looking at things through rose colored glasses I think this pick up may have more benefit long term then getting Thompson. Obviously Anthony Thompson is more talented but he's a one and done. At least Karvala is more likely to be a multi-year player that fits our system well. HoosierHoopster 1 Quote

Frankly the price we paid is a big factor in assessing these recruits now. For example, if Karvala is $500K and Thompson was $2.8M… well there could be good value here. But, idk what we have to pay Karvala. So, I’m just hoping for the best. Quote

I think going into the first year of revenue share and not knowing how this clearing house stuff will shake out, it makes more sense being conservative with freshman. Right now it's clear portal players have more value. But, I'm not sure where the true value lays for freshman under this landscape. I think right now some of these numbers seem a bit high. And desperate schools like OSU with mediocre coaches are willing to pay. You can't out talent bad coaching. Woody proved that and we paid a lot of money with poor results. It looks like a commitment sort of pose but I don’t have Instagram so I can’t read it. Someone else will need to look at that. Quote
