Is Woodson listening to a motivational recording? "Gotta get over the hump. Can't shoot it for them. Gotta get over the hump".

If so, he should get a refund. Clearly didn't work.

The Indiana fanbase is the one that is due a refund. Woodson flat out stole almost $20M over that 4 year nightmare.

I remember the first rumor of Mike Woodson being hired as the head coach, I knew right away it would be a huge mistake for the basketball program. Here we are, six wasted years and a huge buy-out paid out.

Woodson couldn’t land an NBA head job with his enormous wealth of NBA assistant experience. In fact, he was out of the league for a couple season in 2018. The hire was a panic move and to appease the older fan base.

There is a fresh air in the basketball offices now, even down to the athletic trainer and strength coach. Darian has the resources to succeed, I’m anticipating Darian having a great career at Indiana than Woodson did as a coach.

Happy retirement Coach Woodson, enjoy Sacramento and the NBA life again!

I know it seemed to last forever, but Woodson was at IU for "only" 4 years, not 6.

Time moves differently. Kind of like the show Supernatural when Dean was in h*** for 4 months but was more like 40 years for him.

The added social media presence to support and promote Woodson was always the wildest experience to me. Felt like a CAA move to me.

Chris Tucker in Assembly Hall as we lost yet another home game was another memory.

Indiana did it’s best to support Woodson and pump him up.

I don’t think Woodson ever understood the level of Maniacal work the winning coaching put into their programs.

Probably the most shocking thing to me was Woodson lack of a scouting eye after all those years of ball.

The number of misses on guards was about impossible to do with our resources.

And as far as Fife goes, I liked him. People hate on him because of the smear campaign.

I don’t think Covid timing at a place like Indiana University for a guy like Fife was good timing, or his personality compared to the staff. Just not a match.

Yeah the support was crazy.  Learned the exact wrong lesson from the Sampson debacle

The misses on guards never surprised me guys wanna make money in college but not at the expense of looking like trash for NBA scouts.

That’s where I sort of land. Dane styles himself as an old school college basketball traditionalist reminiscent of his mentors Knight and Izzo. Woody is obviously a pro guy and where he spent the majority of his basketball life. It was a bad match and unfortunately for IU fans I’m not sure either approach is all that relevant to today’s game.

^^The bold is it in a nutshell^^

Fife on Woodson's staff was like serving rib eyes at a vegan restaurant or bean sprout-tofu salad at a carnival fried chicken booth; might be things that can work in a different scenario, but should have anticipated that the combination was doomed.

Yep. Trying to appease fans without thinking about what matters. Winning.

I don’t think Woody would have any different results no matter who were his assistants. He listened to who he wanted to listen to. Ultimately his system wasn’t a match for a successful college basketball program.

Watching a huddle in-game was all the insight I needed to know how things went behind the scenes.

I defended woody because I think at his core he’s a caring, good guy. The weight of the job and not being successful sent him searching for excuses, and in that he showed a side of himself that made me not want to defend him as a person. He and his PR slandered a many.

Anyway, hopefully better for all now.

Woody as a college basketball head coach was the Peter Principle defined: "People within an organization are promoted until they reach a level at which they are incompetent."

Woody is a good guy and a pretty good NBA assistant coach; he he just wasn't equipped to be the head coach in an organization where the head coach is also general manager, team president, and the face of the university.

True. Honest to God, I can count on 1 hand, the waves at Nazare, Chilean Patagonia, the South Island of New Zealand, that I want to see as much as I do a 100% candid discussion by those involved of the Woodson hiring “process”. Desperately want to hear successful, serious people reflect on how they hired a guy that at that point no one above HS would have hired as a HC for the freaking Indiana job.

In theory it could have worked. The guy had a long-standing high-level basketball resume, including multiple stints as an NBA head coach who improved young NBA teams.

HOWEVER (and this is a HUGE however) there were clearly many, many people who knew about his work ethic and ability to adapt and set cultural standards and saw the train wreck coming from miles away.

Hiring for a high-profile organizational leadership job is serious business and should not be undertaken without full understanding of who you're really getting. And there were so many people that surely knew the downsides of hiring Woody.

One word, Buckner.  He is about the only reason Woodson was hired, and he damaged not only his reputation but that of Woodson's also.  It is mind boggling how and why he was hired, but I really doubt if the full story and reason will ever be revealed outside of what has already has been hashed out in almost 2k pages already.  It was fascinating reading though.
