Rabby says there is a rumor that IU is looking at Sam Houston's Justin Bailey.

Andershock mentioned there was another ask in the Wilkerson recruitment. I wonder if this was it.

Yes sounds like we were told that if we pay him $2 million and hire this guy, he's ours. We have an open spot, so why not? Can always change coaches after he's gone.

Was talking with mods about how any special request had to be something that $2 million for the year couldn't buy, and that our open assistant coach job is our ace in the hole.

This make 100% perfect sense.

Idk, maybe. If he's a recruiting coach (unlike Bargen), then he could be to get some recruiting connections to Texas which tends to produce some nice talent.

DeVries: Midwest (IA in particular)

Johnson: DMV

Bailey: Texas

It's just a rumor and he obviously hasn't been hired yet. If IU does hire him, I hope it's because he's a good assistant coach and not just to land Wilkerson for a year. Wilkerson is a good player but I don't know about that good.

Don't know anything about Justin Bailey, but I always like getting an assistant that was an associate head coach.   Shows that where they were at felt highly about them.

Assuming Bargen’s not one of the 5 “off-campus” coaches (as has been suggested on multiple sites) DDV could hire J Bailey and still have a spot open for someone like Ekanem or Edwards

So have people chilled out now that DeVries has landed an outstanding player and beat UK to do it?

I've been as impatient as any but it's been clear it's still early in the Portal recruiting and DeVries has been working hard to build a team with players that fit the system he's bringing, what a great land in Wilkerson, and his joining likely now will help bring in the level of players DeVries is recruiting

It seems so, yeah. I will say, I was encouraging patience, but there are only so many Wilkerson-level players in the portal and even fewer of them are as sure of a thing as he is. So even for me, it really makes a difference to actually get someone at this level (Tucker DeVries qualifies too).

Also, scoring efficiently is the one of the highest premium skills.

Curious to see where he lands.  He is one on the staff that I know busted his @$$ on the recruiting trail! Huge part of getting Sisley!

It was my impression Brian, Kenya and Ya did their jobs on the recruiting trail but just didn't have the support from the self proclaimed King to close the recruitments.

Found this podcast with the new strength coach. Love what he’s doing with the athlete’s feet. He’s a good one.
