Yes the Jay Edwards era was amazing. I was at the game also. I remember it being so loud a few times I thought the balcony was going to fall. We’re going to get back to that I hope.

Moved to Bloomington in 75 as a little kid, and left after graduating IU in '88.

As I think you can tell from that time span, yes, I am responsible for our 3 National Championships.

You're welcome.

Now that I'm getting all proper credit, the guy that most blew me away during that span, I Thomas. Dude was such a cold killer, when RMK took the leash off and let him run the floor, he and the team were just unstoppable.

After that into the 90s watching from afar, Cal, Henderson and Vic are my favorites,

Try stopping any one of them.

Yep. I will forever contend that the 88-89 team was RMK's best coaching job. Winning the B1G that year when Illinois and Michigan both made the final four and Michigan won the title was amazing. That team was not one of his most talented at all. And the B1G was absolutely loaded with talent then.

RMK was at the height of his powers then...

I wish I could have seen those teams play.

My older brothers have different favorite players from that era.  Calbert Cheaney, Damon Bailey, and Jay Edwards.  My brother said he’s never seen anyone shoot it the way Jay did. He was at Assembly Hall for his game winner against UM from the top of the key and was at the ‘Watford’ UK game and says the Watford game winner doesn’t even compare to the Edwards game winner.  He thought ‘The Hall’ was going to come down that day.

I’m really excited for the DDV era.  I think next year is going to be a blast and we have a chance to be really freaking good with Tucker.

Go Hoosiers!!!!

Fun fact.  I was a student when Edwards hit that shot.  Gave my dad my tickets under the basket where he hit that shot.  Time of his life.  :)

And Jay used to show up at our parties, which unfortunately was probably a bad sign.

I went over to the Drake message board and read their thoughts on DeVries.  Positive thoughts were that he will quickly build a winner and that he should recruit well.

Negative thoughts were that his teams dealt with a lot of injuries and they thought he played to conservative to end games.  There were multiple instances where his teams gave up leads in tourney games to ultimately lose.

That doesn’t really line up with stat Dolson gave of 65% win percentage in close games.  That was supposedly a good stat when looking at good programs.

Probably just the psychology of it…fans remember the bigger games and maybe he did play it too conservative in a few tourney losses. Overall his win % in close games is a big plus.

I can remember some of Knights teams taking some *** whooping's back in the day.  It seemed like some of them where on purpose at times to let them know if they don't listen and do what they want this is the outcome.  Teaching moment so to speak.

Not sure that is what this is but sometimes a good whooping opens your eyes to make you better.

100%.  Can’t even count the number of bafflers back in the day.  It was like he lost to nobody’s on purpose. Big coach Knight fan here, but this board back in the day would have been interesting to say the least.

Does anyone have an update on where we stand with assistants and potential transfers? Been out of town, trying to monitor the different threads…

Sounds like yes to Norton, Frazier & Ostrom unlikely, Barnett?

There are no confirmed updates.  Just rumors.  Norton is highly expected to be on the staff as is Garrett Stirtz but there have been no official announcements.  Barnett may be in consideration for a head coaching job elsewhere.

Was fortunate to see the 93 IUvMU game.  Not sure I will ever experience that setting ever again.  Loud isn’t descriptive enough, and it was from intros to the end.  Lucked into seats right behind the UM bench.  My new bride kept asking me who was farting (hilarious), it really did stink.  And aside from the game itself I will always be amazed at how the fab dudes treated Fischer. Man, they were harsh to him.  If you ever find the time, that’s a classic one to watch…should have hung another banner that year.
