There’s no guarantee Beck is healthy next year and Georgia isn’t going to head into next season without an insurance policy…Stockton isn’t enough. But the question isn't if Georgia wants an insurance policy though, of course they do. The question is does Mendoza want to be an insurance policy. He could be fine battling for a starting spot at Georgia, or he could take the guaranteed starting spot at Indiana. lillurk and MemphisHoosier 2 Quote

But Mendoza went from being an Ivy League commit to a team in Cal taking a late flyer to a highly productive underclassman. Mendoza has a legitimate shot at making the NFL if he continues to grow and develop. Tough doing that if you’re not getting snaps. I would also say that Kirby sure hasn't had success in terms of raising quarterback's draft stocks. Jake Fromm was the #2 QB in his high school class. Carson Beck was #5. I can't think of a Kirby quarterback who showed great improvement in the eyes of NFL scouts. Kurtis Rourke improved from his previous year more than any Kirby QB ever has. RaceToTheTop Posted December 24, 2024 Posted December 24, 2024 This is one reason I can't stand Kirby: earlier in the season he shoved Texas A&M's quarterback while trying to argue with an official. Kirby claimed he 'didn't see him', but I don't know how the natural reaction of 'not seeing someone' is then to forearm shove them out of the way. Georgia's response? They suspended the 'get back' coach two games for not 'controlling Kirby'. https://x.com/On3sports/status/1845252040433246449 lillurk 1 Quote

Georgia most certainly has not been known as a team that has produced quarterbacks with any kind of success at the next level and they've had some really highly touted ones come in under Kirby. The Rams played Brett Rypien in front of him and brought Carson Wentz off of unemployment to play in front of him. TucsonHoosier 1 Quote

He just had UCL reconstruction surgery (Tommy John) and that could absolutely impact Beck’s availability for next season. Because like @RaceToTheTop said, Beck was almost certainly leaving after this year before the injury and if anything, this injury makes it more likely he’ll be back. Mendoza started all of last season and 8 games his freshman year. He’s not coming to Georgia to sit behind Beck all next year when he can go elsewhere and start. Quote

Tommy John surgery has a long recovery period still I believe. 9 months to a year. If that is still the case Georgia needs a QB1 next year Quote

If that is still the case Georgia needs a QB1 next year It’s different for QBs than pitchers. Brock Purdy has the same injury in the 2023 playoffs. He had surgery March 10, 2023 and was back taking first team reps in late July. He started the season opener in September Quote
