Had an SC buddy (and alum) text our group "IU has reportedly offered $2mil and a guarantee starting spot for Lewis" in the last week. No clue on the veracity of the source and I'm not sure he knows either. Doesn't seem like that jives with anything Cignetti has displayed so far but that seems to be the rumor SC fans are running with. SC has lost several commits this recruiting cycle citing lack of NIL funds.

I don’t think IU would spend 2mm on a single football player (unless a big money donor thought the money would make a program statement) and would be disappointed if Cig guaranteed him a starting position over Jackson, Cherry etc.  I’m calling BS.

The additional danger would be the fact that a ton of highly rated QB’s have flamed out.

For what it’s worth……,

This is just some guy on reddit with one post (this one).  This most likely is a bunch of nonsense.  IU might still get him, but I would put no thought into this post.

I’m not seeing any school other than IU on his insta right now…

Well, he still has a few USC things up on Twitter still. Who knows?

TBH -- I'm not that excited.

I believe he reclassified, so when he's a college freshman -- he really should be a high school senior.

I still have PTSD from Khristian Lander. He "skipped" his high school senior season to play hoops at IU -- and was in no way, shape or form ready for college ball.

And football, obviously, is a whole different deal. I know that 17-year-old is killing it at Alabama -- but I'm thinking that's quite the outlier.

Don't forget that 5 star QB's typically don't start day 1 if that school has any other options. It's hard to do.

This is how I feel about a lot of high school recruiting in the transfer portal era, football even more than basketball.

I’m not sure Freshman star is better than an Sophomore Tyler Cherry or a Junior Tayven Jackson. I just don’t know. Staff has to figure it out.

Think it would be more significant from a street cred perspective than roster value at this point as others have said. Would be a statement signing that makes people say “woah”

Winning at IU with what he has now is doing that.  I get your point though.

I think if we can get Lewis to commit then I think that would lead to more top recruits to come to IU. I could see top OL and WR want to come play with Lewis

I mean; in football (especially at QB) you would like to recruit a star QB who can sit behind your upperclassmen for 2 years and then take over junior year being very well versed in your system.  (A la Arch Manning at Texas).  Obviously the transfer portal has changed that somewhat, but I still think the above is the superior tactic rather than adding a guy for a year.

People not interested in a 4/5 star stud QB because he might not be as good as senior Tayven Jackson year 1 is insane to me.  And also very short sighted.  Yeah, he won't help much next year, but it helps in establishing your program and being able to not miss a beat when your guy graduates.
