Good evening all,

I have some news to share with the BTB family..

With the recent news regarding Malik Reneau, it has been brought to my attention that Coach DeVries has a new target in mind to replace him at that forward position..

John-Paul Ricks, from the Prairie View A&M Panthers..

Now, your first thought could be one of two things;

Barrel, the man is 6'2; he's no forward.

Or secondly:

Barrel, the man averaged 2.3 PPG in the SWAC this season; he sucks nuts.

I will address both of those points..

After talking over a Raising Cane's Caniac Combo with Coach DeVries, he has given me some insight on his thought process here..

While Ricks stands only 6 feet 2 inches tall, Coach claims that after a private visit took place over the weekend, that John-Paul is quite southernly-blessed.

Measurements reportedly show he possesses a shaft similar to a Jersey Mike's Chicken Bacon Ranch, which will clearly provide him with the strength to lock down even the most aggressive bigs in the conference.

Yes, he did average 2 PPG this year, but the faith that Coach DeVries has in this young man leads me to believe that we may have our eyes on the second coming of Trayce Jackson-Davis.

Thank you for your time;

bow to me, I am the Barrel..

Is it just inevitable that the major conferences become a real professional league at this point? I’m not sure this quasi-semipro system is sustainable

Maybe, but they’ll have to stay affiliated with the schools. No one cares about semiprofessional leagues. If they aren’t affiliated with the schools then popularity would plummet.

Yes, I have been a fan a lot longer than you have been alive. I just don't know why players would follow an assistant coach.

Ware went to Oregon bc of an assistant and then left at years end bc the assistant wasn’t there anymore. So it happens.

Congrats on your age? Lol. “Why would X come to IU” is your response to basically every single coach and/or player proposed on here. Believe it or not, some people think IU is a nice place to play/coach basketball.

Pretty much I have right haven't I. Most of it doesn't have anything to do with IU at all. Just look at the hiring cycles the last few years and you notice that top coaches aren't leaving their current jobs.

Not ignoring your question but they’re also watching uncommitted Dante Allen, right? Not sure if there’s mutual interest.

I've heard most likely Miami for Allen.  He is from Miami area and his dad is an assistant for the Heat.  Nothing official that I know of yet though.

Oh the great divide, it will be there until us old folks are in the dirt. I'm not sure what the line is, probably 50yo. I would love to live long enough to see IU have another 1971-94 experience and be able to have good-hearted banter about the 2 eras.

I'm sure your side has been sick of "how great it was then" for a long time. Unfortunately, we have had to live through this comedy of errors during a time when younger fans just want to be fans of their school. I hope your time is starting now, I look forward to the debates if so. Try not to be disrespectful sh7ts. I'll try not to be an old condescending fk.

To be honest I don’t really understand this response in the context of the post of mine that you quoted, but go Hoosiers!

If the coach has built a relationship with the player via in-home visits, texts, calls, recruiting... I can see it making some sense...
