Transfer Portal w IU Interest

Hopefully we didn’t lose Ryan Comwell over a measly 400k. Kid wins everywhere he goes and shoots >40% from 3 on high volume.

If he chose UL for basketball reasons…then fine I guess. But DDv had Javon Small shooting 7+ 3’s a game last year. There’s film of essentially the offense he’ll be running at IU.

We did.  DeVries didn't want to overpay.  Felt like 1.8 was fair.  Didn't want to go over 2 million this early in the cycle.  Hopefully better players enter over the next few weeks.  No one out there now stacks up to Conwell.  That was my concern but good players will be popping in soon, i hope.

Hard not to feel uneasy at this point. It’s been over two weeks and we don’t have a staff, don’t have a GM, none of his players/recruits from WVU seem to want to follow him, the only portal win is a role player from DePaul, and we’re apparently being outbid for our top targets. Need to start making some moves.

I’ll be interested to see if any Cincy players will enter the portal after they’re done in the Crown. Would think they would’ve opted out of that though. I think once we get our stuff set we’ll be seeing alot more names we like. I have my eyes out for Overton from Texas Tech as one of them.

Jizzle James would be interesting . Obviously the Indy connection being Edge’s son . I think he’s a guard that could take a big leap as a Jr. 8.8 as a Freshman and now 13.0 as a sophomore. Definitely needs to improve 3pt shooting only 30 percent .

Yep, Im just thinking this is a refreshing change from the Woodson era of throwing out money to anyone like he’s Oprah. DeVries is going to be a lot more picky and selective when choosing who he wants to form his TEAM. We aren’t hearing a bunch of names in the pot already because he isn’t going to be fine with just trying to get the highest rated guys he can and be the highest bidder. DeVries is building a culture. A culture the complete opposite of the last regime.

I’m highly confident DDV is being very meticulous with who he wants on his roster. It’s still early in the portal game and there are still 4 teams playing for a championship that probably have some transfers on their rosters as well.

I myself am not worried at this point as I believe he’s doing his due diligence to find program guys instead of bag chasers and guys that will be back in the portal this time next year. We could land the nations leading scorer but if he’s not a program guy than he’s not worth a damn imo.

I know people rule it out because Tucker DeVries is the coach's son, but Tucker is one of the best players in the portal and he's coming to IU. He's an all-league caliber player. I don't think there would be as much doom and gloom as there is now if he had a different last name.

This x 100!!!

I’m still curious to see which WVU players transfer in. Hansberry and Harris seem like a couple of good additions if we can land them.

Don't think we're getting any at this point. Maybe Jayden Stone if Moikobu is hired as the 3rd assistant as Stone is a Sunrise Christian product who followed Moikobu to Grand Canyon University, but I think the ship sailed with Hansberry and Harris once Chester Frazier was hired by Virginia Tech. Powell obviously committed to UNC last night. Still think we land a few of the WVU recruits however.

I am a little bit surprised how much shorter the visits players are taking everyone now.  Conwell rolls in yesterday night, leaves this morning, goes to Louisville this morning, likely leaves tonight, and then off to Texas.  Dix has had quite a few visits now that seem to be under 24 hours.

Probably because it’s more about the money than anything else.doesn’t take long to find out how much money you can make.

DD will need to be able to win recruiting battles against other top schools to succeed at IU. Tucker, while a great player, tells us nothing about DD’s ability to win those battles because he’s DD’s son. If he had a different last name then of course the feeling around here would be a lot different because it’d be a big recruiting win and a sign of DD’s recruiting chops, rather than a kid following his dad.

Can I ask what has he really won in 3 years of college. He has been on one tournament team and they barely made the tournament.

JMO, Not that he’s not good, but think people got obsessed with him during his run at Indiana State and turned him into an amazing, amazing player stud.

From what I have been told, if DDV doesn't think the player fits like Pack, he will not even go after him let alone overpay.

What does this mean then regarding Pack and IU?  Are we checking out a few options that are better than him first then coming back and expecting him to still be there?
