That was my inital thought too. Some responded that he's more than the sum of his stats. Was Pac12 Freshman of the year, so there is that.

We are handing out hundreds of thousands of dollars to players and I'd just hope we would try for someone who shoots better than 27% from 3pt, seeing as how we were essentially the worst 3pt shooting team in the country last year. But then again, Woody is our coach so it shouldn't be surprising.

maybe woody uses his magic and beats par on the green more than 27% of the time

He was a Freshman, I would expect his numbers would increase his sophomore year.  I could see his assists go up to at least 4 and his turnovers decrease to 2 while shooting at least 32% or higher from 3.  Would those numbers be satisfactory for a sophomore point guard?  I’m not say this is going to happen but most freshman players improve some during their sophomore year.

I could see us landing Rice, Carlyle, Hickman and either Ballo/Payne.

I guess a fair question to ask would be, "Will his numbers improve the 'typical' amount for a Sophomore when changing from one team to another?"

Sure. You typically see the most growth in most players from Frosh to Soph years due to them getting used to the speed of the college game, strength of the players, hitting the weight room themselves, etc... But, also part of that is also getting acclimated to the off/def system of the college team that they're on.

Changing teams/coaches might affect that. I'm not sure that a Soph Rice should be expected to see such a large jump in his shooting percentage, especially early in the season.

Need to hold back some of that sweet sweet money for more shooters...

More like struck a massive eyebrow raise and inquires of what in the actual hell he was talking about. There's no crow in the vicinity that need be eaten at this point.

Sir appreciate the commentary but as @Alford Bailey and @Chris007 have said this is the Portal w/ IU interest thread. It is not the analyze realTomCrean thread. I suggest you move forums with your reply.

Also would add how will his numbers change when changing conferences. I don't follow the Pac-12 much but I tend to believe the defense is a little better in the BT

The play is definitely more rugged in the B1G. No question about that.

I will add that you got special treatment by getting the thread off-topic, not having your post deleted, and not having a mod quote you to tell you that you were in the wrong thread. So you should thank all mods. Not sure you could walk a day in my shoes.

That is a good point but I think you can extrapolate a little better scoring output as well. Washington St was 322nd in tempo last year. 15 ppg in that system for a freshman says a lot.

We're all just speculating, doesn't cost anything. I'm not that excited about Rice & Carlyle, but others seem to be. I will be a little surprised if IU signs 3 incoming guards though. That would be 7 on the roster (3 new, Galloway, Cupps, Newton & Leal.) Could be a good thing though, depending who they are.

Ballo is definitely a presence....but man his game is ugly and that FT shooting will give me an ulcer.

Well start stocking up on these, Tums, Alka-Seltzer, Milk of Magnesia, Maalox, Mylanta, and Rolaids, because you might need them when we sign Ballo, lol

If you mean, B1G basketball is more boring and results in less points = a little better defense,  then I agree...

I guess all in all... I hate having to watch B1G basketball.

Hopefully that changes soon and offenses are a little more free flowing, especially with Edey leaving
