Transfer Portal w IU Interest

I ain't mad at all and I understand your point (I think - I hope). Please allow me to take a stab at it from the mods' point of view:

There are two current diametrically opposing views about threads veering off topic:

  1. The posters that are pissed when, in their opinion, any and every thread evolves into an anti-Woodson thread.
  2. The posters that are pissed because, in their opinion, they can't say anything anti-Woodson, even when they think it is relevant to the discussion at hand.

My take? Both points of view are right.

It is a challenge to read the board and keep things kinda/sorta on track and reasonable. And it is a given that threads will occasionally veer off-topic. It is also a reality that an individual poster may only post off-topic (in this case anti-Woodson) once and feel it is overzealous to have the thread contain a warning or have a post hidden. But when that is done, it is because of a trend, not any particular post.

So here is how we try to do it (remember, we make mistakes too!):

  • Have a (very active) thread that is a place to vent about Woodson sucking and as a bad choice for IUBB Coach.
  • Allow topics to veer some.
  • But when there are a series of posts that veer a thread, such as a recruiting thread, into an anti-Woodson "it doesn't matter who we get because the staff sux" thread, we try to steer the thread back to its intended and described topic. We want readers to be able to click on a thread topic and generally get the content relevant to the thread title.

It's a subjective challenge, but we try to get it right.

Our hope? That posters take the totality of the board into consideration when they see a topic veering - making it a place for great Hoosier fans and adding to the success of the interactions.

Hope that helps!

Stu (on behalf of all of the mods)

Well said and thanks to all the mods that take care of this site.

That final scholarship left open because they were waiting for a guard to make a decision. I can't remember his name but they were waiting. In the meantime they have an OV from the Hart kid from Linton and didn't offer him. The following Monday or Tuesday he announces he is going to UK. 6'5, good shooter, poor defender, Indiana All-Star but IU thought they needed that last scholarship for the guard they were waiting on. I wish my memory was better on this at least the names of the players and too many posts to dig through to get to last May 2023.

Is that they others remember the situation about the last scholarship?

Supposedly Antonio Reeves. an example of Calipari punking Woodson.  Not sure how much I trusted that because Woodson was ALL IN on X and Gallo, so if this story is true Woodson wasn’t willing to offer enough.  Bad decision.

Probably can safely scratch Koren Johnson off your IU target list.  At the end of March we were reportedly 1 of his 5 finalists although it was a head scratcher at that time.  Today per Joe Tipton, he's re-opening his recruitment.

I would assume that he wasn't getting from anyone the amount of $ he wanted.  Also assume IU was thrown in there in his 'finalists' because it added a school that has NIL and he wanted others to put in $.  I know IU contacted him but don't think it went beyond that.

I feel your pain mods and do not in the least envy you.  Really want Conwell.  Not too overly interested in Boogie.  One and done, and we should be able to find better, more consistent production for that timeframe in the portal.  Just wish we could get some dudes (atleast 2-3) that could get their own shot as well as hit from deep 36%+.  Don’t recall who said it, but having a team that can hit 75% free throws would go a long way.  The mid 60s from the line is probably more aggravating than the horrible 3 pt percentage/takes even though that has more impact on the game.

Not only an excellent post, but an mdn post!

Now that’s some good news.

Seem to remember Antonio Reeves wanting to transfer but he wasn’t sure he had enough credits to graduate and transfer as a grad student (remember the court hadn’t placed an injunction on stopping free for all transfers at the time). He actually went back to Illinois St in the summer and tried to take as many courses as he could and ultimately ended up back at UK.

Thanks for the clarification. I remember that now.

Wonder how close Conwell and Jayden Taylor (Perry Meridian + Buer) are? Guessing that’s one of the connections to NC State?

Has anyone said anything about him and potential IU interest?

It’s one of them but not the main one.

Out of our current 7 scholarship players, only 4 should be in the rotation for a top 25 team. MM, MR, Galloway, and Tucker. Leal, Newton, and Cupps should be at the end of the bench. And Galloway and Tucker probably shouldn’t start. So, IU needs at least 3 B10 ready starters and at least one if not 2 back ups.

At the bare minimum, 4 from the portal. But realistically 5, if not 6.

Also, no one is going to transfer to IU to sit behind Leal, Cupps, Newton, and even Galloway.

Being presumptive on things. Being nobody has seen Newton play we so we don’t know where Newton’s place on the roster is. He’s a question mark. I do believe he was highly regarded out of HS. but coming off knee injury. We’ll have to see where HE slots in.

This is not the thread.  This thread is for discussing IU portal targets not the current roster or former players.

I agree, it has taken me awhile to go through page after page with the same posters arguing about the current roster and former players that really doesn’t pertain to the portal.  But why quote Chris who was not one of those posters?

I like Humrichous too and he isn’t going anywhere to come off the bench.

He most definitely is not coming to be a backup. He is really trying to get workouts with NBA teams and a combine invite, would be silly to come back to college to get back-up minutes especially with the schools involved.
