Last year we brought in a well rounded (on paper) group but were the here more for the money, not coached well or overrated. Maybe all but hopefully this years group proves to be what they appear to be The difference here though is you can at least see a thought process beyond “let me get the highest ranked people I can”. Doesn’t guarantee success but it sure as hell is more likely to work than “buddy ball”. thebigweave, Parakeet Jones, MikeRoberts and 1 other 3 1 Quote

Popular Post RaceToTheTop Posted April 16 Popular Post Posted April 16 Tayton Conerway is 100% a guy with intangibles and a glue guy. Rebounds well for his size, distributes, gets to the rim and is a + defender. You don't need everyone to be a knock down shooter. He provides a lot of good things. DeVries is building a team of compatible parts instead of collecting stars and handing out bags... DeVries will coach these guys, not just spend his sideline time rehearsing passè clichès and focusing on the insurmountable hump. This year's portal work >>> last year's portal work. He’s also doing it in what seems to be a more competitive portal environment—lots of top teams spending big and turning over huge chunks of their roster, fast. I remain in wait and see mode with DeVries, but I’m certainly not panicking anymore. This team should make the tournament. That’s good enough for year one. I think they’ll also be really fun to watch. Juwan Moye, skhoosier2 and Pagoda 3 Quote

Also some schools appeared to have stepped up their NIL — BYU, UM, UL, etc. Definitely seems tougher this year. Juwan Moye, Ctf9 and skhoosier2 3 Quote

Maybe all but hopefully this years group proves to be what they appear to be I don't think last year's group was well rounded. A number of people questioned how Reneau and Ballo would fit playing together. Others questioned the fit between Rice and Carlyle, since neither were lights out from beyond the arc, and utilized penetration that wasn't going to work with the lane clogged. The fit of the pieces is MUCH better this year. Time will tell if improved results follow. thebigweave 1 Quote

Yeah and basically said if it's between IU and UK it should be an "easy decision". Acted like they would know yesterday at the end of the show he would be coming to UK. To be fair, Matt Jones wasn't there. I'm not sure he would have approved the way they were talking. Matt does a good job with NFL coverage on ESPN radio. CSP 1 Quote

I love the optimism but this is really a reach at this point in time. We don’t know that DeVries is ten times the coach Woodson was…. we don’t know that DeVries is building a team of compatible parts instead of collecting stars and handing out bags etc etc. Without going back to read your posts from last year I would be shocked if you were calling Woodson out for the players he was bringing in and the amount he was paying them. In fact I bet you were wildly excited. the fact is most of us know very little about our coach or these players. I’m excited we are landing some players coach is prioritizing (5) but none of this factual yet Brill and J34 1 1 Quote
