Transfer Portal w IU Interest

This could be a simple as Louisville offered more and that's all Conwell was chasing. They did close the deal there so it would make sense. Bottom line is this is one guy very early on. The sky isn't falling so let's be a little patient.

Nobody’s saying DDv was a bad hire or next year is toast.

People are acting like Michigan is killing it when they lost their starting PG for the 39th player in the portal and replaced Wolf with the 30th ranked player.  It’s funny watching the drama unfold.  IU has always won the offseason but lost their season.  People need to learn to chill.

Exactly. Need to build a team. Trevor on Peegs acting like $$$ didn't play a factor. I call BS. It's beyond obvious Louisville threw a lot of cash at him. He took the best offer. How it goes. I'd prefer not to spend a majority of the money on two guys. 

I will say this though..seeing guys like Dusty May, Mark Pope, Pat Kelsey have success year one makes me beyond furious this administration kept Mike Woodson for one more year. Love Coach DeVries so far but still. We are behind and that's how it's going to be for a little bit. Hopefully he wins in year one like they all did.

You can point that out. But then I’d have to point out he avg over 12 as a sophomore and his numbers were clearly depressed by playing with Storr who was a ball hog and then playing off the ball some when Klesmit came in. I watched about every game he played both of those years, and he was one of the better guards in the league. His year this season should not have been a big surprise.

I'm just saying I dont think he was some top 5 transfer like conwell was. He was a good player to get but I doubt he had the competition conwell and dix have rn. Devries has to find undervalued players like hepburn his first year

You don’t know that.  You are making up stories in your head.  Could be what offense he wants to run, could be that he doesn’t like white people, could be he doesn’t like DeVries face, could be a lot of things.  I believe the $ was similar and he decided on the style he wants to play.

That’s true. Lville could’ve overpaid. Or maybe they have more money than IU. If IU is spending 10-12mil and Conwell got 4, I can see that being too much even though I like him.

Right. How hard did Devries go after Conwell? Everyone seems to think that DDV was all in on Conwell and is absolutely devastated that he picked L'ville. 

Maybe he is. Or maybe he isn't. Maybe he offered an amount less than L'ville and that was it. Wasn't willing to go up. Who knows? The point is that IU won a bunch of portal guys who were great on paper last year and it just didn't work out. At all. 

I would assume that DDV knows who he wants and has a value that he places on every player that he's going after. If that value is exceeded, then maybe he just moves on. After all, he has an entire roster to fill. He can't spend his entire budget on 1 or 2 guys. This year may be more difficult than future years depending on the pending court approval hearing. And obviously this is just all complete supposition.

I hope DeVries wins so much that one day soon this board talks 10x more basketball than it already does because we have no time for / interest in petty feuds and catty spats between anonymous posters anymore. The board is for posting opinions, of which there will be some you agree with and some you disagree with strongly. Non-mods policing each other makes it less enjoyable - you don't like something, feel free to ignore it... or respectfully disagree and have a mature conversation. That's when the board is at it's best. Not when people act like their name is Bertha and they're crying in the locker room because Gertrude did "that thing" again.

If true that with Dix the main competition is Creighton and Illinois, we have to feel good right? With Conwell, Louisville and Texas had money. I don't think Creighton and Illinois are near that.

But that’s fine.  He didn’t see himself here for one reason that we have no idea on.  Most likely style of play or he didn’t like something else.  IU and Louisville supposedly have the same war chest.if its style of play, it’s fine and he then isn’t the player we need to fill the spot.  It’s a two way relationship.

There's plenty of reason to believe DDV was prioritizing Conwell, though. He was one of the first recruits to visit campus. 

Seems like a good indicator to me. It's okay to observe when the new coach didn't win a recruiting battle, even if it is his first. 

Some are more frantic about it than others... we'll see where things stand in a month.

One good player not signing does not break things at all. Just means one more unknown for fans to occupy themselves with.
