I’m still in the hope newton can get healthy dream - hope world. Dude has so much talent and just can’t stand seeing guys robbed of their games and own dreams by injury. If he were to overcome the nagging injuries and come back and play his game, that alone would make for a great part of a new look IU under the new staff

Agree 100% and while I’d be shocked if he comes back I’d take him in a second over some kid just filling a back end roster slot. Will always have it stuck in my head watching Newton HS play Brownsville(TX) HS when he was a Jr and in a game with Stephon Castle, Ron Holland and Wesley Yates, Jakai was absolutely the best player on the floor and 1 of the announcers suggesting he was actually too good for IU and a better program was gonna poach him.

I’ve been excited about Newton since day 1 of commitment. Even if he were to transfer, I’m still going to follow him

Maybe 1 to keep in the back of the mind. Colby Garland from Longwood enters the portal. Lefty PG. Played for DeVries as a freshman. Averaged 12pts/4asts on decent shooting splits. 2 years of eligibility.

I hope he gets healthy and can play, too. Just somewhere else. There are 15 scholarships next season so I guess using one on a hope might not hurt too much.

Word is he'll announce his decommitment from Iowa on Monday.  Attucks played in a 3A semistate game earlier today and defeated Princeton 62-55.  Briscoe unofficially with 13 points, 14 rebounds, 9 blocks.  Attucks vs. New Palestine tonight for the right to advance to the state finals next weekend.

According to both the Iowa article you referenced and 247 he’d had a WVU offer under DeVries. So certainly seems likely.

Good find. What does he project to play at the next level? 6'8" is too probably too small for the 5 at IU. Is he quick enough and have the outside game for a modern 4?
