Literally nobody will use Dorn leaving as an excuse in the same way they (factually) talked about us not being fully staffed for the previous portal cycle.

If the two of them cost $6-7M and the freshmen + Trent cost ~$2M... will really need to nail the scout on our other players. And have to strike at the right time. Gonna be interesting to see where we land.

That said, if the $14m number we’ve seen thrown around is true, then Burton + Estrella at $6m total makes some sense, and if you assume the freshmen + Sisley are indeed $2m, that leaves $6m to still play with.

In that scenario, I’d expect the staff to pay up for either a wing or stretch 4, but probably a wing, that is in that $3m range then to “moneyball” the rest.

Looking at CDVs West Virginia team is roughly what I think he’ll try to build this year, but possibly with slightly more talent (although Javon Small was a monster).

For sure. I normally don't wade into trying to guess how much NIL each guy makes or the total budget is. But figure in this context it's helpful since we are basically flipping the whole team again.

Only time will tell how much "moneyballing" we ultimately do.

I like this plan. Though I worry about Estrella’s injury history. That’s a lot of money to spend on a player who hasn’t shown they can stay healthy. But the general allotment of money to a position group seems like a good path.

Maybe this isn't the right way to think about it but my armchair take is that I'd prefer not to lock up 9M on 3 guys and money ball the rest. I'd prefer to pay 2 guys (PG and C) and identify 2 guys you think could be your 3rd option / confident they can be a P5 contributor. Spend a little more on those guys. Money ball the rest. Lots of examples of the lower rated guys in the portal being ROI home runs. We need to hit some singles and doubles too.

interesting how you cling to the Dorn quote but ignored they other 2 which like the staff excuse, also would be factual thing. 

I'm not upset about Dorn leaving either but also it continue does highlight a massive potential issue with DDV, outside of Trent Sisley (Die hard IU kid) no player with Eligibility has chosen to come play with (guys from WVU) or Stayed to play (kids from IU)  for DDV (that's not his own freaking kid) and I'm NOT making that up. 

Just makes me nervous. Guess we will know more next year with the 3 freshman if some of them decide to stay multiple years.

He didn’t get a chance to start a culture with WVU because he was only there a year. This argument is exhausting for no reason. Tyme is trying to argue about it online too. Lots of schools are having lots of people leave. It’s how CBB is nowadays.

Nobody will blame it on Ryan Carr not having a full season to "get going" ... Everybody believes the staff should have anticipated the need to flip the roster again. So, none of the examples you provided of imaginary excuses for next year will be used by the fanbase.

Maybe I'm wrong on this, but the way I look at it is that we still have to pay Dorn out of that budget, so if he's asking more or whatever there is a good chance we could get more productivity possibly for equal the amount?

Scott Dolson himself said as much. Basically “last year was a scramble but this next season we have everything in place and everyone should expect better results”.

Paraphrasing a bit but when the AD makes a comment that strong we should listen.

Thank you for reinforcing that association.  I doubt I'll remember his name for more than a year or two, but I might be able to remember "the bright shoe guy" that was here for a minute.
