Remember Wes Miller and Porter Moser from the coaching search three years ago? Both went P5 and have yet to make a tournament.

Tough to coach in the big leagues.

Sounds like Moser was done in by a late season slide and a bunch of bid stealers.  At least he has a couple of kids signed for next year.  :)

For you Nate Oats fans--

Nate Oats buyout via new contract:

  • March 15, 2024-March 31, 2026: $18 million
  • April 1, 2026-March 31, 2027: $10 million
  • April 1, 2027-March 14, 2028: $4 million
  • March 15, 2028-March 14, 2030: $0

I'm willing to let the rich donors pay that much money to get him. Worth it to me.

Maybe Alabama can be my new team.  I like Oats. DeBoer is an IU guy and I almost coached the Ballou’s daughter until they moved.  We exchanged emails back then so it is like we are pretty tight.  BamaBuck-hmm

This should work out, Woodson may be ready to retire by 2030.

Wow, haven't realized that about Moser.  Knew he didn't make it his first year and this year didn't make it (although I think they should have).  Didn't realized he struck out all three years.

Looking at his record, he's 55-45 and 20-34 in the Big 12...and not particularly exciting to watch.

All of that:

-Mentored by Stevens and Painter

-Connected in the State

-Young yet experienced, both as a head coach, P5 coach, B1G coach, and as an NBA assistant coach

-Zero character blemishes

-Did an outstanding job at PSU, and that’s a tough place to win

-Modern offense

-Serious demeanor, personable guy

-By all accounts a hard worker.

While there’s no ‘guaranteed success’ candidate, for a younger head coach? To me, he’s a dream candidate.

Something to consider:

Really has had only successful year in D1 as a head coach.  Likely not even in the NCAA tournament without the BTT performance.

Career head coaching record of 50-51 at the D1 level.  Three years at the NAIA level as a head coach (albeit when he was 29 to 32) he was 32-63.  Regardless of coaching at hard places to coach at, those aren't good records.  Mike Rhodes put up 16-17 in his first year at Penn State with a complete rebuild, better than what Shrewsberry did in his first year at Penn State.

Personally, I am hoping for more than that.
