Did we waste Anthony Leal at the end of the bench the last 2.5 seasons? Only half joking.
Never been happier for an IU player, great stuff!

Imo yes. Didn't get enough run to get confidence. It's obvious

It's a win.  Does nothing but increase the likelihood Woody is back and we have to endure another awful season.  Pretty predictable actually.

No one is forcing you. There's also very little chance that Woody won't be back next year unless he chooses not to be.

Hopefully, last night taught the staff that having only one big guy on the floor is the way to go next year if you want to save your job.

I'd much rather the staff focus more on convincing talented guards and wings with experience and shot making ability to come to IU than worry about the nonsense of playing two bigs at the same time. If anything last night's game was an example of both needing better (or even just more consistent) guard play and having a 2nd quality big when one has an off night.

You really have to wonder... Indiana Mr Basketball but sits for most of his career, hardly getting a chance. I'm glad he's making the most of his opportunities this year. Such a great kid, bright future ahead no matter what route he goes.

This is a really good question.  Did a flip switch in January and Anthony just started playing better in practice?  I remember reading that Leal had been working with Jordan Hulls on his shot.  Or were Gunn and Banks getting the run because they were considered to have higher ceilings even though their current floors are lower than Leal's?  Could Leal have made a difference in a few losses or made our wins by larger margins?  Obviously, we'll never know the path not taken.

Been saying it since his freshman year. There were a lot of times under Archie where lineups of Lander, Leal, Galloway, Geronimo, TJD looked our best.

And I have been saying for years, Leal needs to play.

Is there any reason (if not in foul trouble) our rotation should only be like 8 players here on out.

x(out indefinitely so I’m keeping him off the list.)

Gallo

Leal

Mgbako

Reneau

Ware

Walker

Cupps

Sparks (matchups) or Gunn if Foul trouble happens

I think moving forward

Gallo

Leal

Mgbako

Reneau

Ware

with Walker and Cupps off the bench should be the main stay rotation

I mean-- that's the way it's been for a while now, right? XJ in and out is the only thing that's really changed that, I feel.

I don't necessarily think playing all these guys 32 mins+ every night is some saving grace for us, but...

I read where Gayle said after the game the difference was Ware being out in the first half they felt they could get to the basket, not so much in the second half.

Woodson finally went against himself and left Ware out there after he picked up his 3rd foul early in the 2nd half.  He only pulled him a short time after he got his 4th but brought him back in around the 8 minute mark.  He finished the game with 4 fouls

I've always said for years if Leal and Galloway are playing together we aren’t are/can gonna be very good and we stink look much better, finally. That said Leal deserves to play more. He’s earned it.

Here, I fixed it for you. lol This has been my pitch all along.

I agree with you that Leal needs to start and I would like to see his 1st game starting this Saturday against the Toiletmakers!

I think we all like what the 3 guard lineup gives us but you know Woodson won’t have it as a starting lineup, but I bet we see combinations of it throughout the Turdue game!

Credit where credit is due. He's a solid dude... rode the pine for 2.5 seasons at the school that he loves... put the work in every day... was ready when his number was called... despite not getting much game time, continued to work, help, encourage, and just flat do whatever he could do to help the team... he could be playing anywhere among the mid-majors... but chose to take what he could get at IU...

Kind of like Indiana's own version of Rudy... and so very happy for him!

In this age of NIL and instant transfers he’s a great example of sticking it out and being prepared when it’s your time to shine.

Happy for the guy. I know he has a real estate thing going but he seems like the type that might get into coaching one day, too.

Says Galloway called the team together before they came out of the tunnel for the 2nd half.

Now that is the leadership we’ve been looking for.  Who knows, this could be the game that gets us over the “hump”!

I thought Leal actually did a nice job running the 1 last night and getting us into our sets, letting Galloway work off the ball. If Leal is going to play the 2 with Cupps in at point, then he has to seek to get open and take shots he's given. We cannot have him and Cupps at the 1 and 2 being non factors on the offensive end and both only looking to facilitate and not looking to score.

With that said, I wouldn't mind having Leal and Galloway both start and either/or run the 1, and leave Mgbako, Reneau, Ware in the lineup. I think when facing quicker guards, Trey is quick enough to stick with them, and let Leal guard the 2.

Who knows what lineup will trot out there Saturday...but hope the boys bring the fire they had last night to Mackey.

I like those but they obviously go small. I would expect to see some more of what we closed with Galloway, Leal, Mbako, Reneau, Ware.  Might be tough to play a lot of that versus teams with a couple of really quick guards. Seems like we could get some quality minutes out of that lineup against Purdue, though.

I love to hear this.  Maybe this means that Galloway is taking ownership of this team.  I'll be watching to see if he becomes more vocal on the court.
