I don't think he even took an OV to IU. I remember Butler offered him too I think. Edit: Looked it up, I was mistaken, Butler never offered I guess.

Similar to what you just said happened with Purdue offering. Some people were pretty high on him, a lot of others had doubts and wanted higher rated players. One of those that wanted higher rated players was Woodson. Big miss by him but to be fair, Smith likely wouldn't have prospered in Woodson's system like he has at PU. The same could be said about Miller's system. Woodson didn't miss anything that was Archie T White 1

I urged him to offer Smith and he refused. When you have an instate kid that grew up wanting to be a Hoosier and you don’t offer him and he becomes one of the best players in the conference, you end up replacing your coach every 4 years Cd71, WeeDerkaNaut, thebigweave and 10 others 9 4

While everyone wondered if he was good enough to play at IU and IU waited too long to offer, he jumped at an offer to play for Michigan State. Three years later he was a three year starter and put up 15.4 points, 5.6 rebounds, and 3.6 assists as a junior. Only difference was IU did offer him and was about to get a commitment from him and then Anderson and Hunter committed the next day and Henry went elsewhere RaceToTheTop, WayneFleekHoosier, Class of '66 Old Fart and 2 others 5
Class of '66 Old Fart Posted January 30, 2025 Posted January 30, 2025 I'm not going to hold Smith's commitment to PUke against Woody.
