They “Retired” Coach Woodson Thread

Normally I agree that it undermines your argument to get personal. But at this point, my question is really... who will weaponize that to discredit our frustrations? The two guys on the board who won't shut up about him?

The national media is turning... the athletic department ignored clearly frustrated fans last year. This was the gamble they took and risk they accepted. As you said the results are not there on the court and now the program is forced to endure a very precarious situation. I hope decisive action is being taken behind the scenes. We need a complete reset next year.

Burn it down. I don't give a toot who it upsets.

This is a really good point and being overlooked in all of this. As toxic as last season was, this was a MASSIVE gamble by the money people and those actually pulling the strings. I’ve really flipped on Dolson. It’s obvious with the way he handled Allen and Cignetti and the Cignetti contract, he is or was simply neutered when it came to basketball after Archie. After a small sample size, it’s obvious that a Mike Woodson team is a Mike Woodson team regardless of talent level (shocker for us, I know). If we come out of non-con with one P4 win in USCe, our tournament hopes are in big, big trouble. This leaves zero room for error in the B1G season, and this is a coach who lost by 27 to to Nebraska.

Yeah I think we agree 100% here I feel the same way about Dolson, though I know many will say it's ridiculous to believe Dolson was overruled/not completely on board with bringing him back. We don't have to rehash that whole can of worms.

Point being, as you said, this season has the potential to go off the rails quickly. That leaves a lot of time for toxicity to brew... letting that fester is no bueno. Our only HS recruit will play for any IUBB HC, so no real downside in roster management IMO.

Sustainable success in college sports is literally 95% about coaching. We know the track record of ours.

We've heard this song before...

Got dog walked in the BTT them got himself ejected so he could get out of dodge. The Mike Woodson error should've ended right there, Dolson should've met him at the locker room and fired him.

I know Chris, and Thyme. Their sources have one degree of separation from mine. Both credible.

Any insight on how boosters are taking this loss

I believe our season just went off the rails today, losing to Louisville as bad as we did...

I think what’s driving me the most bonkers isn’t the loss, it’s that nothing about this game was a surprise or new. It’s what the not true fans have been screeching about. Losses like this are inexcusable at IU and Woody has like a half dozen of them. I’ll say this as well. This better be the end of the coaches need four years worldview at IU. With the portal and NIL, there are zero reasons to give a third or fourth year to a bad coach. None. Money will bring in players, coaches at IU don’t even need to be high level recruiters to get talent. Watching this absolute debacle all over again today feels like I’m taking crazy pills. The important people at IU saw what we saw the last three years, the building issues and thought, let’s not move on, let’s give him a blank check. The billionaires funding this farce are learning you can’t just throw money at this type of problem and fix it.

sorry for the rant, bourbon is cheap at the crib.

My bourbon is kicking in and I’ll tell you what I’m tired about… Is watching these other games and hearing the freaking talking heads talking about how bad IU got their butts kicked.

I’ve been silent since the end of last season, but here are random thoughts from a 50+ year fan and IU Alum…

  • IMO, it was somewhere between criminal and inconceivable that Mike Woodson was retained (and not fired for dereliction of duty) after last season.
  • Is it still early in the season, with a new group/roster? Yes.
  • Could this team turn it around and get things fixed and play much better. Yes.
  • Do we have realistic reason, based on observed performance, data, and information to believe they will? Sadly, no.
  • I can’t think of one thing Woodson’s teams do well, or have consistently done well. Not. One.
  • There is not one visible, observable thing I can think of that would give ANY indication that this man played for a championship level/hall of fame coach.
  • We have one of the be$t ro$ters money can buy and they look absolutely clueless, uninspired, and pathetic.
  • This team doesn’t even look like an acceptably competitive D1 team (last year’s didn’t either)
  • Seems like a reasonable, rational, unemotional observer would have to conclude that this isn’t working and it isn’t going to.
  • Seems like that same observer would have concluded (or been able to have concluded) this at least a year ago.

My conclusions:

  • Mike Woodson would never have been seriously considered, let alone hired, at IU if he had not played here.
  • Woodson never should have made it out of March as Indiana’s basketball coach.

I believe it says a lot about two IU fans that remember watching MW play, remember the glory years of IU under BK are saying the exact same thing, MW needs to go. If anyone on this board who could support him would be us.  What I’ve witnessed last year and so far this year, this isn’t good basketball! I’m embarrassed as a fan of IU basketball!

Just watched the replay. I am embarrassed by the product on the floor.

Not ready to fire anyone over one game, but the performance has to improve.

Greatly improve and many of us don’t see it.  This is supposed to be his best assembled team from top to bottom and yet they look clueless

Games like this have happened far too often in Woodson's tenure; look okay/good at home against South Harmon Institute of Technology then a team with a pulse boat races them away from AH.

This won't even be the last time this year.

May not even be the last time this week.

The very definition of insanity: doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results. It's IUMBB's new motto

Exactly!  Eureka, that’s it.  The Board of Directors and Administration is insane!  That totally makes sense now
