He probably thinks he is with his friends protecting him. With how poorly run this program has been he may be right, unfortunately.
Yep. It he can land these guys and create optics of even crappy recruiting it gives quinn cover. Woodson isn't going to leave quietly

My only issue with this is that we are waiting for "optics" to be right .....when clearly it's not working (see past 4 seasons, see Bikoff's numbers from earlier, see fan interest, etc...)

And what happens if they go on a run (like last year), say a 5 game winning streak....what's the optics look like then? That's when the leaks come from the Athletic Department (or elsewhere) that Woody will be returning, and cue Coach's presser "I'm doing my job."

"F" optics, let's move on Scott.

"5 game winning streak?"

Our next five games are:

  1. Maryland at home
  2. At Purdoo
  3. At Wisconsin
  4. Michigan at home
  5. At Michigan State
  • Those teams have a current combined conference record of 32-10!

Even in a better year, if we could win two of those five it would be considered a reasonable outcome. If we lose to Maryland it's likely that at most we will win one of those five, which would put us at 15-10, 6-8 in conference. Two of five would be 16-9, 7-7 in conference. It's not looking all that good.

However, if we win three of the next five? 17-8 and 8-6 in conference and this Indiana team will have duly earned some real praise. I just don't see it happening.

Nothing personal against the Bosnian kid, but if he commits with a very uncertain future around the staff, I’d be highly suspicious it’s just because we pay the best, so if the new coach keeps him, great and if the new coach tells him there’s not a spot here, they’re probably thinking being a late decommit in the spring is a better brand than an international player trying to find a college landing spot. I’d like a clean start for the new coach, with very few exceptions. Assuming we get a new coach…

He’s done at the end of the season regardless.

The admin is just being cautious about a mid-season change because not every coach and media person in the country has been watching for four years and understands. It’s maybe not a good look as a program to be moving on from a coach with a winning record and above .500 conference record. Unless a string of games or bad loss is in the forefront of things. Just let it play out. Our schedule is about to get hairy, and Woody isn’t learning to coach suddenly in February.

The optics will begin to make sense when we're fully exposed in the four games (and beyond) following Maryland. The rest of the season will be more than enough to get him canned but if they can avoid "Mike Woodson Fired" in headlines they absolutely will do so. The goal will be retirement.

I want a whole new roster with the new coach. I don't want any of these guys back they have learned horrible habits from the king and they are all big money guys. We can do better.

I'd be good with Rice coming back and I guess Jakai Newton if you wanna take a flyer on him ever getting healthy. Not going to be upset if we turn over the entire roster and have 13 new guys next year. Would be swell as far as I'm concerned lol

I’m not counting on it. Think we need to drop a bit more in the standings or get blown out again for optics to be right for the rip chord move. Sit tight.

Dumbest administration of all time.

Yeah I don’t particularly care for any of the players on this roster. Maybe my hatred of Woodson has poisoned my feelings toward them, but I’m perfectly fine with an entirely new team next season. Clear house entirely.

As long as that's the case...I'm good....I just fear the worse....

Thank you

He’s gone even if they rattle off some miracle wins, squeak in the dance, and make the S16?

Unlikely but Woody seems to always go on some miracle wins streak at the end of every year.

It's clear you don't need to pay guys 800k to win games. Woodson has two 800k guys on the bench while getting smoked by guys probably making 200k. He just threw money at anyone ranked high. Clean house.

….just think of it this way. Most every young man or woman has dreams of playing in the NBA or WNBA to get that big money. They know if they get there they have reached the pinnacle. Some of these   are getting paid NIL money in college that they probably won’t be making in the NBA or even oversees.

Well he never had to assemble a roster before he got this job, so what did you expect?

That fact just makes hiring him even dumber.

In the long term, it’s better to have both a good coach and money to pay players.

Good coaches can absolutely win with the roster we have, regardless of the I’ll fit.

Worst case, the Bosnian decommits with a coaching change.  Best case, new coach is a home run guy and he stays.  I don’t see the down side.

Haven't seen it posted, why do we think we are getting him?

Based on nothing, but my money is on Wisconsin in this race.
