Another game where it’s less about what we did to win, and more about what the opponent did to lose. I am so sick of watching Woody ball. PSU shoots even within 10% of their season averages from three and the free throw line and we lose by double digits. We should have shellacked that team by 25 today. Whatever. Fire Mike Woodson.

IUBB “fans” in shambles lol

Now the perspiration is starting to bead up on all of our foreheads, QBall is drafting those extension papers as I am posting this.  But don’t worry, once Reneau gets inserted back in the lineup, the ball will stop moving and we won’t be getting all these open 3’s!

Still don't see it.

Penn St couldn't hit the Atlantic Ocean if they were standing on Daytona Beach.  3-20 from behind the arc, 58.8 % from the FT line. Why did they agree to play in the Palestra instead of home - it was a defacto IU home game with all the alumni from that area?

Woodson is forced to play without Reneau inside and they overall play better. They're still not good. The slide is coming; days like today only mask what is inevitable.

It wasn't that there were IU fans there, it was that there were actually PSU fans there. They probably tripled their home attendance (the actual number in the building) which probably shocked them into putting on a show. The emptiness of the Mausoleum is a weird home court advantage.

From what I could see (not watching on TV; following online) it looked like a LOT of Red in the stands. Not the case?

IU fans always turn out but it looked 80/85% PSU.

IU has never played there.

It was like IU playing a team in Indy.

Aside from that, and the hotel and plane ride,  I guess it was a de facto home game. LOL

Most of the three point makes came in transition after beating PSU’s full court pressure. But you watched the game right?

It is a weird home court. Always tons of open seats right behind the basket, no vibe/noise, has to be the worst “home court” advantage in the BT.

PSU should play 4-5 games a year at the Palestra rather than the mausoleum

Recruiting for that area.   It’s no different if they played the game on campus during their break IU used to always show up big on their home campus.  Same at Northwestern however since they moved into their new facility they have more of a home court advantage

When they play in their smaller arena on campus, Rec Hall, it’s way better than Bryce Jordan too.

There might have been 500 fans in State College today with students away from campus.

PSU was favored by 7.5, they beat Purdue by 11 but we should have shellacked them by 25….OK.

Good win today but on Jan 11th we start an 11 game stretch in which I think we will only win 3-4 games and the new coach train will keep rolling/accelerate.

Hence why I said today. On no planet should IU win by 6 when any opponent shoots 14% from three and sub 60% from the line. That was more my point, not that if they played 10 times IU wins by 25 more than once or twice. The once was today. The Nitts played terrible.

I think today exposes Woodson even in a conference road win. It was a nice win but I believe the only reason we won is because Woodson was forced to do something he didn’t want to do.

the players are good enough to win these games but tying their hands behind their backs each night makes it unnecessarily difficult.

I get it.

When teams hit a high percentage of 3’s our defense sucks.

When teams hit a low percentage of 3’s their offense sucks.

I don't want IU basketball to lose.

But you're being entirely disingenuous if you can't admit Penn St had more to do with their loss that we did to gain the win. They shot 3-21 (14.2%) from three point range; they normally shoot 35.3 % from behind the arc. They shot an abysmal 10-17 at the FT line (58.8 %); coming into this game  they were 76.2 % from the charity stripe.

On average per game, they hit 7.6 3-pointers and 18.7 free throws. Just HALF of the  difference from what they did today vs their average would have given them 10 additional 10 points.

Reneau being out has actually benefitted IU - they shot .444 and .391 from 3-point range with Malik sidelined. When he comes back, I seriously doubt Woodson maintains the 1-big system being forced on him with Reneau's absence. And I seriously doubt that once we start play the better conference teams, we'll maintain the shooting numbers from the past two game.

Like I mentioned earlier, I was following online. Couldn't see everything, but it looked like a LOT of red was in the stands. And considering Penn St never has anyone at home games, I could understand IU having more at the Palestra. Wonder how vocal we were?
