Yes I was told that Woodson met with Trey and Leal on Saturday to give them their deal. This week he has met with Malik, and might hear him announce soon that he'll be back.

Why do I get a picture in my mind that Woody acts like Daddy Warbucks in these meetings.  Now Leal and Trey are like Annie after they see how much money they are going to make next year.  Especially Leal since he done little over the years to earn it.

As much as I'd love to have Pearl on the sideline, I'm still coming to terms with the fact that yes IU leadership really is stupid enough to keep Woodson.

May head down to the most miserable place in the world....downtown Nashville...tomorrow to catch some hoops. The candy-striped Dalton Knecht led Vols play the early game, followed by fighting Young Brucie's. May just sit by myself and openly weep.

I can’t imagine what college would have been like for me if I was making 250-500k (?) a year while hanging around with a ton of “interested” coeds.

I probably would have begged the NCAA for 7 years but most likely would have been kicked out within a year.

We have fallen so low that yes, making the ncaa is cause for celebration. And as delusional as I am for thinking that IU would make a change (when we have always let coaches hang on too long so why stop now?,), some IU fans are delusional that the program is fine and just a player or two away from competing for a title.

Heck, I know some IU fans who think if IU plays this Saturday, IU will make the tourney this year.

I have lost hope that a change will be made this year. Too many people have lost sight of what good performance is.

It will be interesting to hear what Malik does as his market value is quite high. I assume he has been fielding ACC/SEC/Big 12 offers.

Any news if MM has been offered a raise or is it just assumed he is gone?

A buddy and I were just talking about coming back to school from Christmas break with some money in our pocket.....kings of the bar for a short time.  Who wants shots?!  Couldn't fathom that kind of cash on campus.

I'm afraid I would have been Len Bias

He's been offered a raise. I think he is going to test the NBA waters, field offers from others but I think he ends up back here

Making to NCAA's isn't enough to keep your job at Indiana IMO. If it was, Tom Crean should still be our guy. There's zero momentum in the program right now. Beating 4 sub .500 programs is not good enough.

Or is it?

I understand how badly you want Woodson gone. However at least be accurate in your criticism.

Neither Wisconsin or MSU is sub .500 in either conference or overall play.

I just feel the candidates this year will be better but that might be my shortsighted way of thinking

The only one that feels that way to me is Dusty, because he’s the current mid-major rocket ride guy, but with truly unique IU flavor.

Drew, Pearl, Oats, etc? Their names come up quite literally every year.

I agree there are always P5 jobs open and each year there are excellent candidates.

At the same time, you've got to be able to control your own destiny too rather than leave it up to circumstance... If in any given cycle you feel confident about a candidate being "your guy" as you said... strike while the iron is hot. Timing is everything.

I'd definitely have that confidence about Dusty.

They have to win the BTT to be guaranteed  in.  If they make it to Saturday they might, and it’s a big might, start sniffing the bubble.  But that won’t get them in either, unless a miracle happens

Would we move on from Woodson if Reneau and MgBako leave, even though they were offered top dollar by IU NIL?  Would losing Ware, Reneau, MgBako, and McNeeley be enough for Dolson to pull the plug?

I mean I don’t think this is a wild take. How often do programs the size of OSU, Michigan and Louisville open? To me, it is more about the type of program than quantity, and you alluded to it, but it cascades. Cronin to UL? UCLA open. Miller to OSU? Xavier open. Etc. etc.

Side question, and I’ll preface I am on record as I would take May yesterday but I prefer Pearl. Do you think, given the lack of support from QB, and assuming Dolson can act unilaterally that he would actually fire Woody without someone proven at the P5 level locked up? I don’t think May is much of a risk, but if he didn’t work out, that’s Dolsons job. I am just not sure he takes it without a grand slam lined up. Thoughts?

Heck I used to sell my plasma 2 days a week when I was in school.  After 6 months of doing it, I was told that my plasma was special so I got a raise.  I can tell you if you went to Kilroy's right after it only took one shot and a beer to get a hell of a buzz lol.

Agree, because we’ve all seen that the decision-makers last time out made IU affiliation a trump card because you couldn’t land on Woody any other way. And that makes May singular.

From what @Chris007 has said, QB thinks Dusty May is Archie Miller (and QB is clearly triggered by Archie Miller). I would think that another final four run would turn Dusty May into Brad Stevens, but I also think that 3 beers will turn my wife into Margot Robbie, so what the hell do I know?

But did Archie trigger Buckner because he was Archie or because he got the job that Buckner thought was promised to Woodson? That's the real problem with this kind of corruption. Buckner can get triggered or enraged or butt-hurt or whatever you want to call it, but it's because his buddy got overlooked in favor of the flavor of the month.

Buckner has no leg to stand on with regard to who the men's basketball coach at Indiana is. It's true what Woodson got to the tournament his first two years. It's also true that he flamed out in the tournament pretty epically. It's also true that Woodson got to the tournament his first two years with teams that were largely built by Archie. Give Woodson credit for JHS and for Malik in year two, but he also brought us Gunn and Banks, and brought in the head case Xavier Johnson for his first season.

We saw what Woodson's team roster looked like this year (guard shortage and an unused scholarship) and we've got a clear picture of his 2024-25 roster with zero recruits.

So true.  The expectations have been set so low for our program.  It saddened me that people were satisfied when our last 2 seasons ended in blowout losses to St Mary's and Miami.  We have a talented roster again this year and so called "true fans" are willing to accept every excuse given for our poor record and inability to beat any good teams.
