I mean, sure! Not that they are convincing given the downside, but the collective reasons are:

  • We just went through this three years ago. We cannot attract coaches and talent if we bail every year we see adversity.
  • It would be arguably more expensive to dump him than keep him for one more year.
  • Our highest level donors have strongly asserted that they want him back.
  • He's two for two in tourney appearances, and this season isn't finished so it's remotely possible he could be three for three.
  • All three of his teams have improved over the course of the season.
  • He's made adjustments during each season.
  • His best recruiting has been very late in each cycle.
  • If a crap coach like Archie got four years, a more successful program legend should get at least that long.

Don't blow back at me -- the trend and what we've seen this year is no bueno, but you asked for the justification and there it is.

That’s a fair summary. I’d be inclined to buy into that thought process if I felt any forward momentum at all or at least any vision or coherent strategy for a rebuild. But adding a GM and the inevitable scapegoating of Hunter, and maybe Rosemond, doesn’t move the needle for me.

I'm just now trying to catch up so SIAP but here's a good listen from Rabby  and Trevor.  Spoiler alert they would not expect Liam's decision to cause a reversal of the decision to keep Woody.  $$ have spoken and he's getting a 4th year.

Yea, without any recruits one can’t actually compare CAM year 3 to CMW year 3. Give the guy some emeritus title and find a winner, Dolson!

The bold should have zero to do with any decisions that are being made in March of 2024.

Yeah, Archie was on the rise and not declining at the end of year 3. Plus he didn't have the NIL to work with let alone one as big as Woodson does

This is bull I can't like or laugh at anything because I have already used mine up for the day. When did they start counting 24 hours ago?

This has only happened one time before and that was Brad Stevens day

Even if IU wanted to fire Archie after year 3....COVID literally changed everything. Nobody knew anything or if there would even be college sports played the following year. I believe there was only one college coach from a major program fired after the season was abruptly cancelled and that was Danny Manning at Wake Forest who was complete s*** for 6 seasons.

The Archie got 4 years so Mike Woodson is going to get 4 years is in my opinion the most inept line of thought possibly ever from the administration. Completely different scenarios.

This is where things can get toxic. I’m interested to see what happens Sunday and at the BTT. If it’s a chorus of boos raining down and a hostile home atmosphere, that can change things quickly. Having the donors backing is one thing but if the rest do the fanbase has turned and it gets ugly, that will force their hand imo. I wouldn’t want my friends to luv through that. But I’d pay them handsomely to go gold and smoke cigars to get away from it.

@chris You think there's any way May could wait a year? Like maybe Dolson giving him secret money to stay type of chance?

Not Chris but the only possible way I could see May staying at FAU another year is if he has reassurance that his core is coming back to use their Covid years. I know what Dusty has done the last few years building FAU is remarkable, but he's pretty much done it with the same 5-6 guys the last 4 years. He's not a miracle worker. If Dusty loses 7-8 guys at FAU and stays put, his stock has the potential to drop significantly.

I can’t imagine anyone doing IU any favors. The admin are clowns and until they fix what they broke no one will treat them with any charity.
