Fire Coach Woodson Thread

no it isn’t unless you have proven guy., has always been my issue. Change to change. Not good.

Galloway is easily replaced and not level of guy we need. He doesn’t want bench role, see ya. Fans clamoring for one thing while way over estimating him sound like Woody who made the mistake of believing in him.

With Woody, Malik, Liam and MM are all good odds. Without and guy like Dusty, all 3 100% out. Pearl, probably keeps them.

Biggest difference is I feel strongly that so many of the concerns on O, D, etc all starts and end with guards. We have ran out Cupps (oh my) and Galloway 80% of the year. Go back and look at D efficiency with “bad” X year one and same TJD, Race, Kopp, etc who were not nearly as good following year.  Same for O. Need 2 guards that are experienced and proper level of talent.

yep, Woody created this roster, he assumed X was healthy and JN would be as well, etc. He also filled in starting 5 with underclassmen. All mistakes and now realizes he needs upperclassmen. He will target those in portal, guards, etc. this is also why he isn’t just taking some of these guys as recruits who want or expect big minutes as freshman because he knows that is bad idea.  It gets us results we are not ok with.

I feel way more confident he gets that done than Dusty May. Can you get a Pearl or Cronin, fine. Rip it. I don’t believe Pearl has his agents reaching out. People are twisting statements from Trilly.

Let’s see who stays or goes after the season…

Agreed, Woody said same thing that it isn’t fair and he is trying to keep his head in it.

players are not blameless though and Trey is not helping things.

Woody has made several comments about "maybe I'm in these guys heads" and the pressure, etc.

I'm sure to your point, some of that pressure he mentions is about the fans.

But he's also talked about "still learning these guys" ...

We've talked ad nauseam about the roster construction. One aspect of that which we haven't discussed, is how the spring/portal approach may be impacting his ability to form a deep connection with these kids and hence why they sometimes seem scared out there and more often than not look very confused.

Don't disagree, of course players take some of the blame - they're the ones out there. As Woody says, "I can't make shots for them."

Maybe that's the problem......

You also can't say we're young and then go out and have to get 5-7 guys in the portal the next season. In that case were always going to be a new team each year.

Recruiting is dead. He is a lame duck and all he will be able to get are some portal guys.

He MIGHT be able to get some portal guys... does Tom Prichard have any eligibility left?

Also family members of players are starting to let people in charge know that they are tired of their kids being called out in public to the media. It's one thing to do it behind closed doors but it's another to tell the media the kid played awful.

Woody won't talk about himself being awful this year or take any accountability at all for this horrible roster, or the coaching this season. I think that will make kids enter the portal too if he is retained.

Going off what you say if they bring him back would not be shocked if he has 8 spots to full in the portal. I guess his spring golf schedule would have to be put on hold.

Seen several say that IU revenue next year would not be worth the cost of retaining Woody. I agree with that.
-  I’ll also add that Admin has seen recent home games - fans leaving w/ time left on clock, booing team and coach. If they want to kill what little life remains in IUBB they retain Woodson.
-  Roster: Granted the call outs, play style would not be surprised to see Gallo/MM leave. Slim possibility Reneau leaves. Ware pro, X/AW graduating. Leaves us with Leal, Cupps, Reneau, Sparks, Gunn, and Mcneeley returning - NOT COMPETITIVE

Everything considered IU MUST hire a new candidate.

Candidates for replacement:

1) Stevens, Scott Drew

2) Pearl, Cronin, May

3) Busted program sending up a prayer

I think the Stevens ship sailed 3 years ago. I’m surprised to see he’s still mentioned as a possible replacement at this point.

EDIT: Don’t get me wrong, if the man had a change of heart and wanted the job then come on down! But he seemed to make his stance crystal clear

@theriverpilot You’re more than likely right. I’ve said his name for a decade on here though, can’t change now!! A little satirical, a little hopeful

I feel that. Gotta keep the faith. And I’m not as well-versed as others here regarding resumes/stats of other candidates, but I have followed Pearl since I’m in southern Indiana. The man just wins and would be an instant upgrade and success in my opinion.

I think its bc to some of us it is unconscionable to think of a Hoosier leaving the state forever and not wanting to coach the IU program especially if/when so many ppl want you to do it and the university wants you to do it.

Live in Baahston forever while not coaching basketball? I mean, sure if you don't like coaching basketball and you don't like the state of Indiana then sure, living in Baahston and being an executive sounds like a plan. And perhaps Stevens is in the latter camp. It's hard to believe but it's evidently the case.

It just makes so much sense that the notion will never truly die entirely lol.

Well--- I would say to them, their son should have that conversation with Woodson. I am not sure parents ever getting involved is the best route, in this instance..... buuuuuuuuut is that Mark Galloway?

As many have said or alluded to, if Woodson is retained next year could (or likely would) get real nasty. Sad that if Coach Woodson isn't aware of that all of the "IU guy" fence mending he did will be completely gone before he is.

It’s already mostly gone, imo. Fans are pretty sick of him. But it could be fixed with time. If he comes back for another year though, he will completely destroy his IU legacy.

I would tend to agree but I think it's more saying that earlier this year we thought Galloway and Reneau were locks to stay and are now leaning to the transfer portal to see what options they have. Especially if he is kept and they want to play in the tournament next season.

If Woodson comes back it will get beyond ugly. He will be remembered as the guy who sunk the program. His arrogance may blind him to this fact though.
