Fire Coach Woodson Thread

One thing we haven’t really talked about is how interesting things get at the end of the season if UNC is also looking for a coach. They’re sort of in a similar situation to us. Feels like they’d have first pick over us in the blue blood pecking order.

One of my employees is a UNC grad and seems to think the general consensus is the FF in year one/ACC title last season buys him one more season but the seat will be nuclear. Unless they completely implode, in which case all bets are off plus he was literally ACC coach of the year last season. If they canned him this season it would almost be a Tom Crean type situation with a smaller sample size and arguably more success. I don't think we have to worry about them being open at the same time.

Tough decisions.  Idk what to do.  Watch or not watch.  Root for us to win, or hope we look like we did against Illinois.  If the latter happens, it’s Black Monday I would think.

Does it really matter?  He is gone at the end of the season anyways.  Fire him now might give us some hope as fans to finish the season the right way.  Let’s just do the totally cool thing and Fire Mike Woodson now and let Tom Crean finish the season.

Here's my prediction.

If IU loses to Maryland tomorrow, Woodson will be gone mid-season.

If IU wins, he'll be fired at the end of the year.

Tomorrow's game seems like a pivotal one that'll determine whether he's gone now or later

Yea.  Lose tomorrow and it could start a particularly nasty losing streak.  Win and the win/loss record continues to look good enough to keep going.

Feels like he rode fifth year guys Bacot and Love from the previous administration. Now that he’s working on his own the results are starting to show some cracks in his coaching abilities. The risks of hiring former players continues to rear its ugly head.

I think you are right here, but I have to look at it from our perspective. If Woody had ridden TJD to a FF and also had a SS with B1G 1st place finish, we would not even be conjecturing about him not getting a fifth year. Because of that (and what I hear from people down here) I think Hubie is safe for another season. I know several UNC folks that can see the writing on the wall that he probably is not going to work out, but they are probably hamstrung in a way we are not from a performance perspective. If we ran Woody off with Hubie's record, we would deserve the "true fan" treatment lol

Hubert also to his benefit spent a bunch of time as Roy's assistant beforehand. Its not like he waltzed into the job straight from the ESPN set.

I can confirm that a couple trustees at UNC mentioned Brad Stevens independently from each other. Don’t know if it means anything just that Hubert Davis’s job is definitely on the line.

True, but it could be that a couple of the guys we want would prefer IU because they have ties here.

You misunderstood!

I am not rooting for a bad loss so that we can hear the chants.

But IF we are getting smashed I am perfectly happy with the fire MW chants.

To me it didn’t read like that!  I was just having fun with it!   I thought it was funny, lol

Probably, but the guy won the conference last year, was CCOY and went to the Sweet 16. If they get in this year, and I imagine that’s more likely than not, and then you cut him loose, there are gonna be some guys who don’t take their calls and some that do are gonna ask, “Hey, you didn’t support one of your own. Why should I believe you’ll support me?”, and that’s gonna be a tough question to answer. The contrast of the IU situation is that no one would be asking that. The issues are clear.

At IU, many prospective coaches would be likely intimidated by the hump... it's apparently daunting...

Crazy that UNC’s coach has two sweet 16s in 3 years, a title game appearance, a conference title, and a 71% winning percentage in the ACC and they want him gone.  Meanwhile we’re on pins and needles wondering if Mike Woodson will be fired when he hasn’t accomplished a fraction of what Davis has.

Just shows the enormous difference between IU and a real basketball school.

They are much more serious than we are.
