Fire Coach Woodson Thread

Feels like we're headed for the Hatfield's vs McCoy's and a potential fracture among our IUBB alumni.  From accounts I've read, QB, Zeke, Wittman orchestrated the Woody hire and I've seen Kitchel's name aligned with that side as well.  Last week Rabby reported that a number of former players - he used the phrase 'north of 10' - met with Dolson to voice their concerns about the direction of the program and a desire for a change.  It will be a true shame if the Woody coaching era creates a serious rift among former players.

One way to avoid this is for Dolson have a press conference and vehemently saysHE alone decided to make a change.  Everyone saves face and the old guard just gets upset in one guy. only way.

I think that is the safest thing to do since we have been burnt before. Others are better at it than I am. I get my hopes up every time.

Everyone that wants change is getting their hopes up.  There is no other way.

Hearing nothing has changed from what I posted last Thursday.  I'm still hoping Woody can actually see the writing on the wall and can step down in a couple weeks instead of his plans of a year or two from now.  In the meantime he has a round of golf to play in between getting ready for Minnesota on Wednesday.

Lucky for us it's supposed to rain tomorrow so he better get out there today.

If the Zeke, Wittman, Kitchel set are still on that side it's a separation that needs to take place.  Think about how long it took for Georgetown to finally separate from the John Thompson group.  Rather have hurt feelings of athletes that played in the 70s and 80s than a program at a point that Ed Cooley is going to have trouble getting back to relevancy.

Would also be interesting to hear Calbert Cheaney's thoughts.  He's obviously privy to the whole thing and he's not really an outwardly vocal guy.  If Dolson were to go to him and he was voicing concerns, that probably would hold a lot of weight.

I agree. I am cautiously optimistic, expecting to see Woody again next year.

I think for me the fact that Rabby has been explicitly stating Bruce Pearl is more than interested does make it more plausible than situations in the past. Not that he knows all, but for all the crap Rabby takes, he is more than cautious with the information he passes along.

I should have added that while 3 or 4 names have been specifically identified in the Woody camp and 'north of 10' in the we need a change camp, I've no doubt that many more IUBB alums have been in contact with Dolson weighing in with their thoughts, opinions and desires.

He is very loyal and came here for Woody. I don't think he would say anything even if asked, till it was over

Calbert is close to and fiercely loyal to Woody from things I've read.

I would caution everyone on this Pearl or May news because we have no idea if this is even happening at this time. We have been burnt to many times on these Internet rumors(Donovan and Stevens) so I am not going to get my hopes up. Until I hear reported by a reputable outlet, I am going in the assumption that Woodson will be back next year.

Scott, no offense, but you seem to still believe news is broken by Walter Cronkite. It’s 2024. The Trillys of the world are far more relevant than ESPN or SI.

Yeah.....I can only think of one thing Trilly lead IU fans to believe that ended up being incorrect (Boogie Fland to IU) and he changed his tune even before Fland committed to UK.

He was right about that and he changed at the last minute like everyone else did. If Boogie would've committed on that day that was hinted at like everyone thought he would then he would've picked IU.

He looked thrilled during the NW game.

I think a lot of the information Rabby and Trilly are getting is from Dolson himself. If he has his guy lined up he probably wants it to leak to put pressure on those who oppose the change. That's what I would do. If people like Buckner hand cuffed me and forced me to hire an unqualified candidate, I'm going to turn the heat on them. They should get the egg on their face for this bad hire. And they should take the blame if we have to keep him for another year.
