Agree he did. I expect that from him each and every night. But to say he played "great" defensively tonight would be suggesting we watched different games. I love Cupps now and especially for the future but his defense tonight wasn't good. Maybe Dug didn't shoot well but I think that was more on McDaniel than it was an influence of Cupps. He was continually taken off the dribble. Again maybe I watched it wrong???

It wouldn’t happen until further into the season anyways, but if Gunn can build on this game and consistently make shots on the perimeter and continue to have his knack for the ball on the defensive end, Woody might just have to start him over Galloway. He played well with the first unit when he was not the primary scoring option, and Woody definitely saw that. Now it’s up to Gunn to be consistent. Regardless, I root for this being the norm and not an outlier kind of performance because I know he has the tools to be a really good player for this squad.

Michigan hit a 3 to go up 59-53. I feel like that's where an Archie team would have packed it in. This team scored 7 straight to go in front. 

 

Just wish we ran a better fast break and quit turning it over so much.

He got beat a couple times, but that will happen.  McDaniel threw up a bunch of bad shots tonight and that was due to the combined efforts of Cupps and Galloway.  I think you are selling him quite a bit short on his performance tonight on the defensive end.

They started with Galloway on him and then moved to Cupps, and then went back to Galloway.  They were alternating.

Jeebus...I am the one that said So. Cupps > Fr. Fland. So clearly I'm a Cupps believer and will trumpet him anytime I can. That said, we have to be honest about our assessments of the guy. Gabe is going to give you everything he has at all times which is why I love him now and going forward. You can acknowledge that and his faults at the same time. Did I see it differently than literally everyone else? If he was a 5 star would people be this lenient?

I like Cupps but I think some people expected too much out of him as a frosh. I've regularly said I think he can be a good piece as upper classmen but will likely need to adjust and develop to the college game.

Queen has to like seeing how our bigs perform, especially Reneau's development. I'd like to have another long athletic 7 footer like Ware though.

We need more from our starting backcourt, period. Galloway isn't a lead guard and his shooting has vanished. Johnson wasn't playing great but at least provided depth.

Gunn could be a help but so often he's as much a liability as an asset. Hopefully seeing a couple 3s go down gives him a boost.

Still need more consistency from Mgbako but he's FTs were big down the stretch.

7-1 and 2-0 to start conference, can't really complain about that.

TEAM win.  That was the best part.  Nip and tuck all game and any time it looked like Michigan could pull away, IU answered.

77 points and no one with more than 15.  8 players with 6 or more, 28 points off the bench.
