rcbowla Posted December 6, 2023 Posted December 6, 2023 Hop on the bus, burn the first 35 minutes of game film, never speak of this again. Except to say we beat them. Michigan is a bad team, and it turns out we're a little bit better. I also feel like this team has gone from a team that figured out ways to lose a couple years ago to a team that figures out ways to win. I like that. Kel'el Ware. Man, that dude is good. Enjoy him this year, he's gone next year. Great great player. Galloway is strong, he doesn't get rattled, and he makes good decisions. He just struggles to put the ball in the bucket. Reneau is improved from last year. We're getting great games out of him consistently, especially now that he's cut down his fouls. Gunn is great on defense, atrocious on offense. Mgbako is ok, but a disappointment (thus far) from expectations coming into the season. Cupps is solid-ish. Definitely a freshman, and definitely needs to hit some shots. He simply can't exist out there without being a threat to score. 7-1 baby. I really like that.I may just be remembering incorrectly but man it feels like the last 2 years in these 3 pts or less games we have won way more than we lose. Again I might be way off but it feels that way.Sent from my SM-G996U using Tapatalk Hardwood83 1 Quote

Then, he added a second in a pivotal moment. He can be this team’s X-factor, and I would love to see that come to fruition. He offers so much if he can execute. str8baller, lillurk and thebigweave 3 Quote

Been thinking lately we’re a second half team. That’s not a bad thing. We do adjust in the 2nd, halftime coaching is showing. Now if they can get to regular full game play on all cylinders…. rcbowla Posted December 6, 2023 Posted December 6, 2023 Woody: “Gabe Cupps played his @$$ off tonight.”Agree he did. I expect that from him each and every night. But to say he played "great" defensively tonight would be suggesting we watched different games. I love Cupps now and especially for the future but his defense tonight wasn't good. Maybe Dug didn't shoot well but I think that was more on McDaniel than it was an influence of Cupps. He was continually taken off the dribble. Again maybe I watched it wrong???Sent from my SM-G996U using Tapatalk Ngw7183, Home Jersey and HoosierHoopster 2 1 Quote

IUHoosier5 Posted December 6, 2023 Posted December 6, 2023 It wouldn’t happen until further into the season anyways, but if Gunn can build on this game and consistently make shots on the perimeter and continue to have his knack for the ball on the defensive end, Woody might just have to start him over Galloway. He played well with the first unit when he was not the primary scoring option, and Woody definitely saw that. Now it’s up to Gunn to be consistent. Regardless, I root for this being the norm and not an outlier kind of performance because I know he has the tools to be a really good player for this squad. Quote
TheWatShot Posted December 6, 2023 Posted December 6, 2023 Michigan hit a 3 to go up 59-53. I feel like that's where an Archie team would have packed it in. This team scored 7 straight to go in front. Just wish we ran a better fast break and quit turning it over so much. Tom White, IUHoosier5, Hoosier DaDa and 4 others 7 Quote

Sent from my SM-G996U using Tapatalk He got beat a couple times, but that will happen. McDaniel threw up a bunch of bad shots tonight and that was due to the combined efforts of Cupps and Galloway. I think you are selling him quite a bit short on his performance tonight on the defensive end. go iu bb, 94Bulldog, Hollywood Mike Miranda and 6 others 9 Quote

rcbowla Posted December 6, 2023 Posted December 6, 2023 Jeebus...I am the one that said So. Cupps > Fr. Fland. So clearly I'm a Cupps believer and will trumpet him anytime I can. That said, we have to be honest about our assessments of the guy. Gabe is going to give you everything he has at all times which is why I love him now and going forward. You can acknowledge that and his faults at the same time. Did I see it differently than literally everyone else? If he was a 5 star would people be this lenient?Sent from my SM-G996U using Tapatalk Home Jersey and Ngw7183 1 1 Quote

Sent from my SM-G996U using Tapatalk I like Cupps but I think some people expected too much out of him as a frosh. I've regularly said I think he can be a good piece as upper classmen but will likely need to adjust and develop to the college game. Tom White 1 Quote
JSHoosier Posted December 6, 2023 Posted December 6, 2023 Queen has to like seeing how our bigs perform, especially Reneau's development. I'd like to have another long athletic 7 footer like Ware though. We need more from our starting backcourt, period. Galloway isn't a lead guard and his shooting has vanished. Johnson wasn't playing great but at least provided depth. Gunn could be a help but so often he's as much a liability as an asset. Hopefully seeing a couple 3s go down gives him a boost. Still need more consistency from Mgbako but he's FTs were big down the stretch. 7-1 and 2-0 to start conference, can't really complain about that. Whoozhers, Artie86, Tom White and 2 others 5 Quote
