Coach Curt Cignetti to INDIANA

Their forum is an interesting read:

One poster said he's been to Indianapolis and he can't believe that Cig is leaving for a dump like that. Another poster responds "But have you been to Bloomington?"

First poster responds "No, but how much different can it be?"

Yeah, I read the one call it an awful place and my first thought was they clearly haven't seen Bloomington.

It’s a bad 3 weeks to be a coffee pot in wherever tf JMU is and Bloomington. This also probably means he has a good chunk of staff ready to roll.

I'd think he's probably bringing a lot of his current staff with him. I think one of his coordinators has been with him for a while.

Boys...

  • Now that we've got our guy and a newly fattened bank account it is officially 'player poaching' season!

  • Though I'm not sure how much $$ Mark Cuban devoted to IU NIL previously, or whether owning the Mavs presented conflicts of interest, I am pretty sure that he just sold his ownership interest in the Mav's for ... ahem ... $3.5 BILLION

I'm happy with the hire, but if IU doesn't consistently support the program we won't obtain the success we all want.

As expressed by another site, the need for significant facility upgrades, NIL, and the financials for a strong coaching staff are all required. Does IU have it in them to provide it year in and year out... time will tell. In my opinion they have not done consistently in the past but there really is no excuse not to now, unless they want to get booted from the BIG.

PS - I like some of the on line comments made by Dylan Powell.

Just a curious question, once you put your name in the portal, does the University have to take you back if you rescind?

No, it does not.

I don't think the portal is officially open yet so I'm wondering if they're all in the portal or have just stated their intention to enter. I also wonder if that is a distinction without a difference.

IU had more than $25M in profit last year so they have the money. The question is whether they're willing to consistently spend it, which they haven't been in the past.

I don’t see how it’s realistic for him to do bowl prep and hit the portal recruiting for Indiana?

If he would have stayed at JMU he would have been doing bowl prep and hitting the portal.

If he goes to a bowl next year here (sure a bit of a longshot) he would do bowl prep and be hitting the portal.

If he were coming here and not doing the bowl he could just hit the portal but I think it will be more attractive to prospects for him to not only sell on the idea but also show his team/ideas in action.  It has to sound better to a kid to say, hey we cannot host you this week because we are playing in XYZ bowl vs saying sure we can host you for a visit, we arent doing anything else.

He will have someone(s) doing a lot of the leg work on who to contact and then he will jump in on zoom calls initially and he can do that from there but can pull on a IU jacket.

I think him being in the bowl will be more attractive to some kids than the time missed because he is doing prep work

He'll have a challenge on his hands, that's for sure.  Turn this program around and he'll be a legend though. His resume looks like we actually took this one serious.

I don't expect to be competing for conference and national titles, but being competitive and bowl contention would be an improvement.
