Won't JMUs bowl game probably be before Xmas?

Knowing how things usually go, they’ll be invited to that one bowl with teams you’ve never heard of that plays in January between the semifinals and championship game.

The Rotel and Velveeta makes a half decent queso bowl.

The White Castle slider bowl.

The Frisch’s Big Boy burger and all new diaper brand bowl.

I actually went looking for that bowl and it looks like they moved it.

Boys...

  • Now that we've got our guy and a newly fattened bank account it is officially 'player poaching' season!

  • Though I'm not sure how much $$ Mark Cuban devoted to IU NIL previously, or whether owning the Mavs presented conflicts of interest, I am pretty sure that he just sold his ownership interest in the Mav's for ... ahem ... $3.5 BILLION

He only sold about half of it. He will still be around.

Zander Diamont is going on quite a twitter rant this afternoon about IU's branding mistakes/misplaced investment over the years, etc.

He's not being overly critical but he is basically jockeying for a check lol. Someone said Zander for president because he said going back to the oval logo would kill recruiting. He said "I want nothing more than a consulting role. I am running my own business and am in no way qualified to be on the coaching staff. ... With love!"

Indiana good to Nike and I bet you'd see plenty of retro stuff.

Just a curious question, once you put your name in the portal, does the University have to take you back if you rescind?

Technically I believe scholarships are year to year anyway -- you don't HAVE to renew a player's scholarship.

Even if a team were to honor their scholarships year to year -- pretty much everyone does -- I do not think they are under any obligation to take a player back if they enter the portal.  For instance, a player like Khristain Lander hit the portal and I believe was hoping for a bigger landing spot than Western Kentucky......but I do not think IU was under any obligation to take him back if he didn't like his other options.

If he would have stayed at JMU he would have been doing bowl prep and hitting the portal.

If he goes to a bowl next year here (sure a bit of a longshot) he would do bowl prep and be hitting the portal.

If he were coming here and not doing the bowl he could just hit the portal but I think it will be more attractive to prospects for him to not only sell on the idea but also show his team/ideas in action.  It has to sound better to a kid to say, hey we cannot host you this week because we are playing in XYZ bowl vs saying sure we can host you for a visit, we arent doing anything else.

He will have someone(s) doing a lot of the leg work on who to contact and then he will jump in on zoom calls initially and he can do that from there but can pull on a IU jacket.

I think him being in the bowl will be more attractive to some kids than the time missed because he is doing prep work

He needs a couple assistant he trusts to review the current roster of players to determine who to re-recruit.  And the 100s of players in the portal to recruit.  His own player personnel staff.  They can do the grunt work, while he does bowl game prep.  BUT, the minute that 4th QTR is over, he's on a plane to B-town to roll up them sleeves and get going.

Very curious to see if those stadium changes ever go into effect, plus if we can keep the NIL budget up over time

Frankly, rather just put in real seats.  And then spend the money on practice facilities and things the players will use everyday.  All they need on game day is a great playing surface and a packed, loud stadium.  You can come back to the stadium later as success fuels those other improvements.

Diamont wants the best food in D1 for the players. I thought that was an excellent idea and starting point.
