Stuhoo Posted December 3, 2023 Posted December 3, 2023 Not saying Cupps’ shot is a clean as Mgbako’s; it’s not. But it’s not bad and he’s making good decisions and getting (and missing) good looks. So it seems very likely to me that Cupps is gonna have a game soon where three or four shots go in. IU_FanClub, Rico, thebigweave and 4 others 7 Quote

What he brings to the table right now is floor vision and generally pretty solid decision making. He doesn’t make many mistakes. He’s not an immediate impact player like a Yogi, but he is looking like a guy who will grow into a strong college point. Hulls was really a 2 but I continue to see fair comparisons (no, not that they’re both white lol). Neither came in strong, particularly athletic, very fast, or big. Both came in looking like savvy on ball players, both good shooters, both made few mistakes early, both played immediately within the offensive flow — their early grasp of the speed of the college game ((so much faster than HS) was pretty apparent early on. Cupps absolutely should be getting decent minutes, as he is, he is growing into the college point role, you can see the promise in his game - my only complaint is why isn’t he shooting? The kid can shoot, get him looks and/or let him create some shots for himself along with Bako. He needs to contribute more to the offense and that includes assisting better, but I think that’s going to come. edit- some discussion above of guys who developed well over time. How about Collin Hartman? Scrawny frosh, fans on HSN posting he should transfer (I never like that talk, some people actually wanted Wat to transfer), had offseason knee surgery, by his junior season he was a strong contributor. For that matter Yogi had this ridiculous tendency as a frosh to run straight into traffic leave his feet and only then realize he wasn’t sure who he was going to pass to - point guards in particular need time to develop Largely agree with you here, really good points. But I do want to ask a clarifying question. When you say you want Gunn to shoot more, do you mean from the perimeter? I'd agree that Gunn needs to use his athleticism to get more shots slashing and at the rim. We need more of that and so far Galloway is really the only guy we have that can do that. Gunn using his athleticism to get easy shots at the basket and as you said get some assists and playmaking going by attacking could really help. But, his perimeter shot is historically bad to this point in his career. I want him taking less perimeter shots, far less, not more. He's been really bad from the outside, like shooting multiple airballs bad. Not even close on his shots. thebigweave, Stuhoo and Home Jersey 3 Quote

Someone on staff is surely showing him on tape all the unnecessary stuff he is doing during his shot. Great play for him to get a curl around for midrange shot where he is wide open in the Maryland game and he drifts and leg kicked for no reason Stuhoo, WayneFleekHoosier, BGleas and 3 others 6 Quote
Stuhoo Posted December 3, 2023 Posted December 3, 2023 Ya know that guy on the other team that hasn’t done **** his whole career and goes off for 20 pts against us? I think once Malik starts seeing the floor a little better there are going to be a lot of open looks. He is just a step slow right now on kicking the ball out. The coaching staff needs to change that in a hurry! Right now, I have 0 to no confidence that Gunn will make any 3 point shots! thebigweave 1 Quote

If you do that in the NBA the refs will call an offensive foul regularly these days. It’s an NBA officiating point of emphasis. Quote

Good to know we both feel the same. I am sorry you feel that way because let me tell you, I feel the complete and 100% opposite while being told how I need to talk differently like I am a 5 year old. The amount of times I have been directly went at, been talked to like I need a lesson taught to me etc. is ridiculous. This is a freaking message board. But even with that, I have tried adjusting multiple times. Taking ownership, apologizing, etc. you probably stopped reading my posts awhile ago or read them with a slant, so you only see things for how you want to. Even when I post some simple insight on something like X being out for a few games I am attacked. “You don’t have any sources.” Don’t see people telling that poster to not be an @$$ and I don’t care to have recognition for any sources. I was sharing some insight with fellow fans for crying out loud. But I am the jerk for replying to that comment. Not sure why I try. i don’t really care if anyone engages with me. Ironically was exactly my request before. You disagree and don’t like my post, don’t engage but my “need to tell everyone I am right” is more about my making a post with my thoughts on the game and then bombarding of replies with people telling me “how wrong I am.” - this is 100% my frustration. You see my replies, defending my position after I was replied to first, telling me I am wrong. I am not seeking out these posts, replying to them etc.and trying to start a giant argument. Don’t see anyone telling them to stop. So I am supposed to just ignore each reply I guess? See that is the part I don’t think is easy to see from the outside looking in. Go back and look. I didn’t go at a person unless replied to. Maybe a post here or there but I get rapid fire replies if I post ANYTHING that some disagrees with. I simply made a post about the game and was engaged to tell me I am wrong. The funny part is that came after @Stuhoo replied to it saying something like - 100% this. Then I received replies to telling me again how great Cupps is, how CJ shouldn’t see the floor. If my argument was for less Cupps and more CJ that NOBODY agrees with that, etc. A lesson on how stats work, or the assumption that their knowledge of the game is superior to mine and a lesson for me. All this while I read posts that say Cupps played good last game while MM played just ok and we are better if X stays on the bench but I don’t reply to them directly and try to start a debate. Those debates are brought to me. Again, I have tried to adjust. Tried to fit in with some fellow fans and give my insights and some knowledge if I receive any. I have zero issue with being told, don’t post here anymore. No worries. It isn’t worth it for me either if this is going to be the weekly back and forth. Left once and happy to again. However, I would challenge you to really look at some of my post history and see that this need to tell everyone how right I am stems 100% from being told how wrong I am. All the way back. I am sure I will get the typical 3 or 4 replies with “oh my God, give it a rest.” Yet again, I am replying to you who just called me out. I didn’t bring this argument to you and tried to avoid any more debate with @BGleas by saying it is fine if we disagree and let’s move on. We are all good, mostly aligned etc. yet here we are again because you, as many others have, decided to come at me, not the other way. hard to convey in text but I am truly good. Say the word and I am out. But tired of all this being put on me the same as most are tired of reading this crap instead of basketball related things. First response— oh my god, give it a rest. This tread was basically dead as we all have moved on to Michigan and/or Coach C. Tom White 1 Quote
