Our conference opponents for the 2023-2024 season have just been announced, and as expected, because of our very tough schedule last year, our schedule this year is truly magically wonderfully excellent and full of double plays against likely bottom-dwellers:

Double Plays:

  • Maryland,
  • Minnesota,
  • Nebraska,
  • Ohio State,
  • Penn State,
  • Purdue, and
  • Wisconsin

In Bloomington only:

  • Iowa,
  • Michigan State, and
  • Northwestern

Road only:

  • Illinois
  • Michigan
  • Rutgers

This was reasonably expected, and is very, very nice.

"But, but, but...Why hasn't Braden Smith improved as a sophomore?!?"

(hint...it's because he doesn't get to stack his schedule with multiple games against Minny, PSU, and Nebraska the coming year).

Xavier Johnson might bully him worse than JHS did. Playing with your food.

I will reserve my comments and opinions about next years B1G schedule until after each game has taken place. Learned my lesson this season, and will no longer take any team, regardless of the situation, for granted and will not label any match up prior. That L vs NW at home, ugh!

X has some Russ to him in that he will absolutely delight in feasting on that kid.

Forget Smith….X is going to get completely Loyers skin.

@ PU this year, Smith started hot and was peacocking at the first timeout. He was basically done producing, though.

JHS was terrific, no doubt, but the game turned when Trey put Smith in a vice after halftime.

X and Trey together…Loyer won’t get a clean catch or handoff.

Far be it from me to help PU but if Painter is going to play Loyer and Smith big minutes at guard they need JHS/Ivey/Carsten Edwards/Terrence Shannon-type production at the 3 IMO

ITH --

Indiana will host Harvard as part of its 2023-24 non-conference schedule, according to Jon Rothstein.  It’s the second non-conference home game to be revealed for next season.  The Hoosiers will also host Kansas on Saturday, December 16, 2023 at Assembly Hall.

Harvard finished last season 14-14. The Crimson are coached by Tommy Amaker. The two programs have only met once before. Indiana beat Harvard 97-76 on December 2, 1972 in Bloomington.

Nice top 150 KenPom opportunity.  Replacing teams ranked 300+ will help the metrics a great deal next year.  Love this.

I wonder if Ya had some influence in this. It could help recruiting if we show players from the south east that we're willing to play games in the area.
