Oh boy, I’m sure there are many posters on here that have seen Woodson play!

I was really young but did see him play at IU.  DEFINITELY saw him play in the NBA.  He was a pretty good player in the NBA.....but couldn't shoot the three.

I thought you were closer to my age.  I even seen George McGinnis play, but I was like 8 or 9.  I definitely seen all 3 of RMK’s NCAA championships!

Here is my rant! I was calling for Woodson head last season after I took my family to the home northwestern game and they put up a lazy pathetic effort to lose by 1. I was disgusted. Eventually they recovered but could have actually won the big without the inept stretch of games. Fact is as of now mike woodson should absolutely not be fired yet. His results to this point is a upward trend. However the play is disgusting. It has been all season and some points over last two seasons. He isn't Archie bad yet. He is However to this point not good enough. The rest of this season is where it's at. If we miss ncaa and don't have major upgrades coming in then imo it's imperative we move on as smoothly as possible cause this program can't handle another ugly exit imo.

For the longest time, we were only recruiting 3 guys so not sure how we were going to get 4 or 5. Fland, Mcneely, and Queen. We got one, missed one, and in the final two for the other who is deciding next month. Since then we have opened our recruitment to Brown, Sanon and Davis

Seems backward.  Need to open the funnel.  Start with six and narrow down to three, etc.  To me the biggest issue is the lack of building up the recruiting.  As Horsby stated, building from the portal isn't a good long term strategy.  Great for fill in guys.  But you need a core of 4 year players coming out of high school.

OK, so a 4th year player taking freshman teammates out of the hotel after curfew isn't crossing a serious line?

Driving 90 MPH down Walnut, and then swapping seats with an innocent person to try to avoid any consequence is not crossing a serious line?

Taking a shot an opponent's nut sack during a game, then smirking as he's escorted out of the arena is not crossing a serious line?

All three show contempt for authority. All three demonstrate incredibly immature behavior. All three warrant serious punishment, in my opinion. And apparently, to many around here (and Woody), they all qualify as insignificant little faux pas.

But you're worried that we will lose more games without him. Good to know what your priorities are.

Oh please.  Sure the kid can be a tool, but these aren't the crimes of the century.  If he's not playing basketball, nobody gives a crap.  Sure he hurt the team.  Consequences for bad behavior, fine no problem -- run the stairs, sit out a half or a game, apologize, whatever.  But kicking off the team, give me a break.

I for one haven't called for him to be kicked off, but at what point does the totality of his behavior become a factor? Some posters seem to want to view each of his incidents as one off when they're not.

He's a 6th year senior, he should be setting an example for the younger players; he should've been setting an example as a 4th year guy. His actions set a bad example and the lack of actual consequences send a worse message. That's setting aside the all too often horrible performance because his head is so far up his butt he could give himself a colonoscopy, and not seeing pine time as a result.

I think the X commentary is just a ridiculous waste of time. He’s made stupid choices but he has t caused anyone harm and even though he makes mistakes that guy gives it his all every time he steps on the court which you cannot say for pretty much anyone else besides Malik. He’s our guy let’s stop trying to assasinate his character and root for him to succeed and help the team like he can.

I am firmly convinced most on here and across IU fanverse have never played any high level ball. This kind of stuff happens a LOT. Sometimes guys get caught. If it isn’t this, it is other cheap shots. Fife and Lewis did this stuff all the time. Yes, off court too.  But, let’s hire Beard smh

So many have this weird version of what IU was. Like our players were some pastors. Even the few former players complaining were no saints at all. Bobby sure wasn’t either.

It was dumb because it was bad timing, he got caught and his team needed him on the road as their leader.

I’m not in the kick him off the team crowd.  Sit him for a half and move on.

The totality of his transgressions is most bothersome.  Some have said no big deal he has never hurt anyone.  True, but with his Walnut stunt he was very lucky no one was hurt or worse.

Personally, I would rather see him come off the bench.  He will have some big games but I don’t automatically think we are better with him.  I like Galloway at the point blowing by guys and getting into the lane probing and making plays himself and setting up others.  Start Gunn at the off guard and give him meaningful minutes with the starting unit and hope he finds his game.

Dude, you went to see the Taylor Swift Eras Tour movie. What did you think my kids were going to do when they saw Tay-Tay? BTW, thanks for the friendship bracelet. I didn't realize that you were such a Swiftie.

I was just reading an article on ESPN about UCLA getting beat by 46 pts. to Utah. UCLA has now lost 8 of 9 games and appear to be in some sort of a tail spin. Mick Cronin's roster has a some NBA talent, but he gave an interesting take on the current state of his team.

"I think guys got punch-drunk," Cronin said after the loss. "They're good kids. We don't have bad kids, trust me. They listen. They're embarrassed, but that doesn't help. I was concerned with this. They're punch-drunk and you've got to fight your way out of it. I've been there before. It's been a while, but I've been there before."

This sort of reminded of me of our team a little after a few of our disappointing losses. I've often wondered if this carries over?  We play gun shy and a little nervous. JMO.

If it were up to me?

I'd start:

  • Xavier
  • CJ
  • Mack
  • Malik
  • KelEl

and play Gallo a ton of minutes as the sixth man. With Walker as the seventh man and very few minutes for anyone else.

But that strategy flies in the face of always starting the same people and doing wholesale NHL-style line changes, so there is little hope this will ever happen.

The issue is that he's never held accountable for any of his actions or poor play.

Sure hitting a guy in the nuts is one thing, what if I told you this was his 2nd or 3rd incident?

There was no repercussions for his 3AM joyride.

He's allowed to make mistake after mistake and he's never relegated to the pine. CJ Gunn misses a shot and he's taken right out of the game.

I don't think Xavier Johnson is a bad person, but he's by far and away the most immature player on the team and he's the oldest by far.

I just don't see how you can play long stretches with CJ/Mack at the 2/3. They can't dribble. I get what you're saying, for sure, and maybe we can get TG to the bench next year if we can get two transfer guards... but man, if I am seeing that lineup for an extended time as an opposing coach I would pressure the living piss out of us.
