I've never really been a big believer in bulletin board material. But I hope this lights a fire under TJD's a-s for as long as IU remains alive. 

After being a preseason first-team AP All-American, he didn't even make honorable mention. And maybe he wasn't deserving -- there were times this season when we seemed to play better without him. (And no, I'm not saying we're better off without him; I'm just saying he had a real rough stretch for a while there ...)

But Zach Edey made the team. Color me confused on that. Zach Edey is an All-American and TJD isn't? Okey-doke.

I was listening to Alford on Dakich and he says that have no PG.  Not one on the whole team.  Seems like an interesting matchup but I like our chances.

Our second unit that has Geronimo, Phinisee and Galloway should go full court press the entire time those are out there together. With no true point guard and their second unit, I think those 3 could give them fits if they pressure

Imagine they’ll pick up at least 3/4 court most of the game. The 1 thing I don’t want to see is Johnson playing Maldonado defensively. Ever. Wyoming has no matchup for Johnson in pick and roll. He will carve them up. But Maldonado is really big, really clever and really awkward. He draws a ton of fouls. Those fouls can’t be on Johnson. Start with Stewart. Go to Galloway. Go to Bates. Go to Kopp. But Johnson can’t be sitting 5 mins in with 2.

But I don’t think he’s played against the type of guard that’s actually going to pressure him a lot up the floor. And so I’m just ready to compete tomorrow against him.

To me Gallo seems to be the best choice for Maldonado.

Apparently Ike is used to drawing doubles almost every game. Very very much doubt that will happen tonight.

Hot take:

If Trayce and X have more combined fouls than Ike and Maldonado, they win.

If Ike and Maldonado have more combined fouls IU wins.

If both sets of featured players are in foul trouble IU wins—we have far more alternate options than they do. Remember when Reiber from Rutgers tried to guard Trayce last month? That’s an approximation of Ike’s backup.

I think that’s a good wrinkle. But having no point guard doesn’t necessarily mean bad with the basketball.   
 

I have liked a lot of our press looks this year. Even if it is a softer press meant to not give them a free run up the court.

I’m a nut job when it comes to watching IU at my own house down in the basement by myself.  We went to the St Johns game this year and that was a regular season non conference game and I was a wreck watching live.    Prayers to my wife in advance for me watching an actual ncaa IU tournament live.
