Popular Post CSP Posted April 18, 2022 Popular Post Posted April 18, 2022 IMO There are too many that believe the portal is the answer to problems. Player development trumps all that noise. Archie had zero, Crean was very good in that department. There is also pretty much zero chance we are going to go from a bottom dweller (in 3pt shooting) to some elite sharpshooting team like Hulls SR year. Just not going to happen in a years timeframe imo. Moderate improvement from multiple guys and our team grows A LOT. And then if ONE guy breaks out.... look out. I have no idea whether he is ready to play college level or not. But I am amused by how certain some are at predicting who will play and who won't. I am not predicting anything except allowing for the possibility that a 6'5" athletic player who shot well in high school will get some playing time if he can demonstrate he can shoot at the next level given how poorly IU shot from 3-point range this past season. Another way to say it is that the others mentioned--Leal, Galloway, and Bates--need to step up to improve their shooting to warrant significant playing time. cthomas 1 Quote

Bates is more athletic than Leal and has demonstrated he can score by driving to the basket. Also, although his overall 3-point shooting percentage is not good, Bates hit some clutch shots down the stretch. Leal is court smart. But a shooting guard has to shoot more and with more accuracy than he has. Leal seems to lack the confidence of a good shooter as he passes up too many open shots. Stuhoo 1 Quote

These are the 10 I think play.. at least as of today. Now after an off-season program and who develops their shooting ability, then our starting line - up could be interesting. I wouldn't be surprised if Kopp starts again. The fight for the starting 2 will be a battle between Hood and Tamar. I just know for sure Johnson, TJD, and Race would be starting. We have depth for sure. Honkyman Posted April 18, 2022 Posted April 18, 2022 There are currently no available scholarships which may prompt Woodson to ask all of the players (except TJD) to commit now to remaining on the team for next season or state that they intend to enter the transfer portal. There's no point in players like Dexter and McNeil visiting IU if there are no available scholarships--unless they are willing to wait for another 6 weeks to see what TJD does. Hoosierfanyuh 1 Quote

If JG is around I would personally prefer to see the staff working with JG to get to get the bulk of the bulk of the minutes there. Kopp still gets minutes as a shooter off the bench and Galloway already fills the role of being being a multiple position defender. And we haven’t even begun to talk about Bates’ role at the wing where he has the possibility of being a legitimate multiple level scorer . Quote
Popular Post LamarCheeks Posted April 18, 2022 Popular Post Posted April 18, 2022 Do we think we can win an NCAA title next season? I think that's what needs to be asked before further roster moves. If not, what's the point of adding McNeil or Dennis for one year? I'm probably in the minority, but I say let's stick with what we've got. If TJD returns and we're looking to add one or both of those dudes, the guys who seemingly might leave (Geronimo, Leal, Galloway, Bates, Duncomb) each could have as many as three years left. I know a lot of people are down on a couple of those fellas, but I'm not ready to give up on 'em yet. There's only so many minutes to go around anyway. Of course -- it ain't my decision. woodenshoemanHoosierfan, HoosierFan1994, HoosierHoops1 and 8 others 11 Quote

He also sees himself as more than a cheerleader. Is he happy to be here? Absolutely. He’s a player though. He is going to keep working on his game and he will contribute. I think he finds a way to get on the court. mamasa, JaybobHoosier and WayneFleekHoosier 3 Quote

Over the last 10 or so years I have made a lot of lists of things we needed to happen to be good. If Trayce returns. and Bates puts it all together and our incoming 5 stars play like 5 stars Then who knows what that team could do. And really that’s not a ridiculous list like Archie always needed me to make That’s 4 guys I want playing 30 minutes a game. The you have Xavier, Race and Trey who I also want playing 30 minutes a game. I guess I’m kinda in your camp I’m Ok letting it ride. That being said there are a few people still on roster that I don’t think factor into plans one way or the other Quote

I think you add a high percentage shooter for one year to show high percentage recruits what they can add to a successful team. Winning titles is great, but you always have to be thinking about recruiting. Quote

Alford Bailey Posted April 19, 2022 Posted April 19, 2022 I’m 100% confident in two projections. Kopp is starting (unless we land a huge transfer) and Leal and Duncomb will still be at the end of the bench. HoosierTrav and BannerVille 1 1 Quote
