(2024) PF - Derik Queen to Maryland

He'd better be mentioning these tweets to Derik prior to putting them out there, otherwise it's unnecessary pressure on a young man torn between his good friend and home base. Our fanbase is both the positive and negative form of rabid. 

On the surface, seems awesome to see that kind of chatter in type. But in DQ's shoes? I'd hate it.

Last week, we noted an opportunity for other teams to close the gap on Maryland and the next day Houston and Kansas were in to visit him. Since then, things have gone dark aside from a flurry of social media stirring by Joe Tipton. As of writing, we still believe Maryland has control of this race and we’d be surprised if this doesn’t get wrapped up in the early signing period.

Wow, Indiana pulled every stop they could for Fland and Queen. Might miss both.

Not sure what can be learned from this, but it’s not a great feel. Staff is gonna have a hell of a time come portal season, if things don’t change.

Just the Indiana thing though. When was the last time we had two bonafide 5 stars in the same class? Last decade or so we've had Gordon, Zeller, Yogi, Vonleh, Blackmon, Bryant, Romeo, Hood-Schfino, Mgbako.. but they were followed with maybe a high 4 star. And hoped that player worked out like a Troy Williams.

I'm actually a bit tired of Trilly.  Tons of speculation, lots of swapping with funny GIFs at the last minute which overlay his previous comments. When this recruitment was shut down, it was immediately following Woody's visit. No mention of IU in his post....interesting take. Must be fun running a burner account so you don't have to take accountability for your guesses.

All true but doesn’t make him wrong - he’s been pretty darn accurate

If I was another team recruiting McNeeley I’d be in his ear. He wants to win big and have a chance at a Natty. I’d be letting him know Indiana can’t build that roster. I DO think relationships are important but it’s hard to imagine the recruiting sales pitch did not include a strong chance with Fland and Queen.

Staff is going to have to reassure him they can find the pieces, imo.

I think Fland’s choice changed. I think Trilly was right on both picks in that one. Bidding wars have always existed. Last minute changes happen legitimately. They COULD happen in our favor theoretically. I think Kansas offered McNeeley a strong @$$ offer and our offer matched up enough plus our relationship.

I will say, I’m tired of Maryland winning head to head battles over IU in recruiting. Re:Queen- Maryland was always the perceived leaders. Apparently not enough happened for Trilly to change his choice until the Maryland visit. He usually waits for visits to finish anyway.

Whatever Tippman was trying to do the other day didn’t gain traction. I don’t get what was going on there. But it wasn’t nothing.

Where do you see that we are losing out on Queen. All of these guys kept saying that Fland was going to IU until a day before he committed

I don’t think it’s his nature or his families nature but I know he wants to be on a top team with a chance of a Natty. If Indiana doesn’t afford that possibility I could understand second thoughts.

True; when he makes an actual prediction.

He did not make an actual prediction for Queen to Maryland.

It’s no guarantee but Trilly still leans that way. No reason to give up all hope yet.

Yep went in on three guys and only got one. 2024 was supposed to be our big monster class. Strategy may need to change unless you want to scramble every spring in the portal.

It seems to me this recruitment doesn't have enough action for either Tipton or Trilly. Things got really quiet after amateur hour with Joe Tipton and I don't think either of them can stand it. It was looking to be a long and boring weekend without Friday PM chatter.

So far we have went in on many, many guys and gotten one, but Derik Queen is most certainly not one of the ones we've missed on at this point. Because he hasn't announced anything yet.
