HinnyHoosier Posted March 28, 2021 Posted March 28, 2021 Whatever makes you look cool buddy. Anyone who knows me here that I chatter about all IU sports. I rooted for the women’s basketball and football team before it was cool.So it won’t hurt you a bit to put the big boy pants on and see this through...Buddy. Popular Post IUCrazy2 Posted March 28, 2021 Popular Post Posted March 28, 2021 Ok, have waited on this for awhile before going on initial reaction. I have my doubts but here are the things I could think of as to why this may work: 1. Woodson wants this job. It wasn't just the next available step on the career ladder. He bleeds this place, losing is going to hurt him on multiple levels. I saw there were Big Ten people laughing about the hire. Ok, saddle up Woody. You beat their @$$ as a player, time to do it as a coach. 2. NBA connection. Well covered here. 3. African American coach. Indiana (as a state) has this reputation as being a backwater that is not real minority friendly. This squashes that. Let's be real, most of the guys being recruited are going to have more in common with Woodson then they would with a white Texan. There is not another "blue blood" program doing this. 4. There are some people a little put off by this. I kind of am...BUT, if this works out, he is the type of hire that will get people back in the fold quickly. That being said, I think his most important job in the next few days is getting as many guys back out of the portal and committed to Indiana as possible and trying to convince the rest to stay. Then lwts see if we can steal a few guys. Dolson did not win the press conference. Ok. I get that. But we've been a bunch of flash and no substance for about 20 years. I want Woodson to come in and have a take no prisoners attitude. **** Goodman. **** those other Big Ten contacts the Phillip's was talking to. **** the national media who is shoveling dirt over Indiana like it is dead. IU vs. the world at this point. Screw talking, let's go to war. codetoad, cybergates, thebigweave and 12 others 14 1 Quote

Trish Posted March 28, 2021 Posted March 28, 2021 We need an XO’s coach and two major recruiters. Hire John Belien as a senior advisor to the program. Quote

The man has multiple years with Chris Paul for crying out loud. That doesn’t answer the question. He’s knows a bunch of NBA guys. Most of them Recruits won’t know. Others were washed up before our recruits starting liking girls. Chris Paul thing could be useful I will admit. Quote

The question is just whether he can parlay his NBA connections to recruit at a sufficient level to win here. If he can come in recruiting at even 80% of the level Penny Hardaway did at Memphis, he'll do fine. That having been said, this isn't the hire I would have made. Gives me strong Ewing to Georgetown vibes. Ewing had never been a head coach at any level. Not even in high school. hoosierfan6157, Rookie33, Hippopotamo and 1 other 2 2 Quote

I also think it's pretty impressive to be able to say to a recruit, "I played 12 years in the NBA. I know what it takes to make it and I can show you." , before he even has to talk about his NBA coaching record. FWHoosier84, go iu bb, Hippopotamo and 2 others 5 Quote

I don't follow the football team as closely as BB, but I was totally underwhelmed when Tom Allen was hired without even a search. So far it's turned out damn well - in large part because of TA's enthusiasm. It's said that Woodson really wants this job and has for several years. IMO there's a definite chance this works out well (DISCLAIMER: No coaching hire ever comes with an assurance of success). FWHoosier84 1 Quote
Popular Post IUrocker Posted March 28, 2021 Popular Post Posted March 28, 2021 I think this could end up being a matter where the opposing coaching staffs look at the bench of our coaching staff in the pregame handshake and go “oh s**t..”.....because I really think if they brought in Woodson his staff is gonna be BA.
