Candidate Thread: Scott Drew (Baylor)

Recommended Posts

Everyone in here.....Drew has the 4th ranked recruiting class next year, so I really don't see him leaving that and coming to IU.

You will have better luck over at the Thad Matta, and John Belein threads to be honest.  :)

Offer him $7 million a year and you might be surprised how quickly he forgets that recruiting class..

Although they could always join him in Bloomington.

This thread should be much longer, yet we entertain Lewis, Fife, 68 yo Beilein, Matta (who know ones what to expect from), 4.7 million Beard, Woodson, and countless others.

What kind of reality do I live in?

Sadly it seems like a lot of people would rather hire an "IU guy" for the memories and fuzzy feelings of yesteryear than go after a top dog willing to play the college game. I hope our administration doesn't feel the same way, but I'm not holding out much hope.

If we “almost” had Brad Stevens at 7+ million, Drew is an option too. He barely makes 3 million a year if that plus Baylor resources.

The fact they’ve been a top team recently AND have the 4th rated recruiting class is exactly why this thread should be miles long.

Hey I have him in my top 5, but think it's highly unlikely.  Hope I'm wrong, I love his style of play even though I don't think his personality will mesh at IU.

He’s an Indiana guy at least, not that I care about that. He wins at the highest level and can recruit at Baylor. Yes, please.

I'm not in that boat....we have to shoot for proven power 5 winners with multiple deep Tourney runs ABOVE ALL ELSE!!!

He actually makes less than that, he’s at about 2.8 million a year

Because Scott Drew has the 4th ranked recruiting class next year. He isn't leaving that for IU unfortunately.

He could take over an IU team with all players back except Durham, including a five star big for his junior season if TJD stays.  Plus 3 or more open schollies that can be filled with portal transfers to fill gaps in the roster.  The basketball culture, fan base, facilities, etc. have to be superior to a football centric B12 program.  Kentucky had the #1 recruiting class this year and couldn't even win 10 games.

I'm starting to come around on Drew. I think as long as we do our due diligence and make sure everything is on the up and up.

I really enjoyed yesterday's game. We really need a coach with a style that appeals to college players, and they are a fun team to watch.

I don't know. He's been there for 18 years and only has two elite eights? Ehhhhh.

He has no state income tax in Texas. Assuming his team actually makes it pass an elite eight for once this year, he could be playing himself into a nice new contract from Baylor. Throw in a new basketball arena, a good recruiting class and way less pressure to win a championship.. I don't see him being interested. It's a downgrade to come to Indiana from his self-built program at this point.

He's been away from Indiana for a long long time, maybe he's like Brad Stevens and has moved on from anything Indiana related.

I gotta admit that the Hanmer thing and ongoing sentiment that he's dirty and doing illegal things has always jist turned me off. Now I question that narrative if we were just butthurt and I should take an unemotional look here again. He's an upgrade over Archie. Even not hanging a banner, he's having wayyyyy more fun than we are. I want that fun.

2 things: 1) What continues to bug me, outside of the Asst trying to shamelessly bully a teenager, is that Drew never uttered 1 public word about it. Nothing. And then kept the Asst for another season after it came to light before allowing the guy to leave on his own. Zero leadership. 2) Don’t know how dirty he is or isn’t, but he managed to get Mark Vital into a school like Baylor when, despite being a top 100 kid, he had precisely zero offers because literally no one thought he could qualify academically. But the clearinghouse cleared him eventually, so maybe Drew just knew something no one else did. But somehow I doubt it.

Drew is not a good guy IMO.

As much as I have a preference for certain things about the next coach, I would root like hell for Beilein or Fife if that's who we went with.

Drew would be much tougher; for me tougher to root for than Alford.

I'm on the same train as Stu.
