Justin Smith looks greatly improved... maybe he can help players improve

He's playing around the basket more.   Sometimes they go with him as the only post.  Archie had him catching the ball around the 3 point line constantly.  They also seem to get up and down the floor more.  That is his strength.

Story from USA Today yesterday. Smith takes a not so subtle jab at CAM lol. https://www.usatoday.com/story/sports/ncaab/tourney/2021/03/21/arkansas-eric-musselman-should-be-new-indiana-mens-basketball-coach/4793839001/ Musselman is "a coach that allows you the freedom, who allows you to play basketball," he added. "The main thing, honestly, is just confidence. I think the way we prepare and we practice allows all of us as individuals to have confidence."

Kind of wondering why Musselman isn't getting a little more pub here.

I've mostly mentioned and some others have mentioned that he gives CTC vibes. Frankly though, I don't see Arkansas letting him leave. He's built a storied basketball program back up. Word is he wants back in the NBA eventually. He's at a basketball school in a sense, might as well stay there until the Kings call him.

Well, I'm a free agent I guess. Sell me on Musselman.

Not sure if this is 'selling' anything but his first HC gig he coached a player by the name of Keith Smart.  They went on to finish 1st in their division and advanced to the CBA finals.

His only losing seasons were while in the NBA; two seasons at Golden State and 1 season at Sacramento.  Every other place he's coached, which is a lot, he's won.

Final pitch, he's better than Archie?

Also coached former Hoosier Jim Thomas in the CBA also.

The thing that intrigues me the most about Musselman is that he was born into basketball.  He's got a proven wealth of knowledge and experience that translates into development and motivation from his players.  I like his coaching style the most and in my opinion, he'd turn around the program and beat PU the first season.

However, I don't really care who gets hired.  Just so long as IUBB starts winning and playing in March.

We waiting until he loses to ORU or Baylor this weekend? I am hoping so. He would bring a lot of juice back into the program and a lot of talent.

Plus other BIG team's fans would HATE him. I would love that. Give this man a raise!

Maybe. But Arkansas basketball isn’t Indiana basketball.

He strikes be as the type of person who wants to be in the spotlight, Arkansas basketball doesn’t give him nearly the opportunity to do that like Indiana does.

Problem is here wants too much spotlight and would annoy the boosters. He’s 100x what Crean was in personality.

Im sure he’s a very nice guy, the kids like him by the looks of it. But we’ll see what they do this week.

I don’t think it’s him that wants the spotlight. He is just promoting his program. He is a big personality and honestly this job needs a personality big enough.

His personality would be a lot more annoying if he was losing but since he's winning it's looked as motivating or endearing. Some of his motivational tactics definitely make me roll my eyes. Obviously it's working though since he has had a lot of success in college. I honestly think he fits more in college than the NBA. NBA players would immediately tune him out. Here's just an example.

There are different ways to promote your program.

After they won on Sunday he ran and jumped on the scorers table and was screaming into the crowd celebrating. He was alone, without his team.

I would argue, he wants the spotlight. Which is fine and needed for this job.

Yeah, I think it’s needed. Celebrating with fans and his family from a distance is fine by me. Need a personality thats bigger than the fanbase so they don’t get crushed. Think that was part of Archie’s problem, the weight of the job was too much.

I used to say this but I’m slowly realizing that Indiana Basketball isn’t what we think it is. It’s not what it used to be. We’d have found a suitable coach by now. If this job was such a desirable one, we’d have suitors busting down Dolson’s door. The Zeller years are the outlier in my entire lifetime.

** when I say we would have found a suitable coach by now, I mean since Knights dismissal 21 years ago.
