Candidate Thread: Chris Beard (Texas Tech)

I just feel like Beard isn't a major upgrade over Archie. I get that he's had some success and they made a surprise run to the title game in '19 but just average play in the Big 12 equals below average (i.e. Archie's record) in the Big 10.

Conference style matters. And unfortunately the B1G is a hybrid of basketball and greco roman wrestling. I think Beard's style actually fits better with the B1G than the Big12. I think USPS would be able to either confirm or refute my claim as he clearly watches more than I but that's my thought anyhow. I get the trepidation though.

Yeah his style of play would be just fine in the B1G.   He is a grinder and some games look more like rock fights.   But he gets his players to play extremely hard the whole game.   Hova would need a warning because they fall on the ground to take charges all game.   Count how many charges they attempt in the tournament game.   Beard is a clear upgrade in  My opinion.  He has made 4 straight tournaments with Texas Tech a program that basically didn’t have any history.   It’s not just the final 4 run either.  The year before that run he took Texas tech to the Elite 8.  There is a reason he has a 15 million dollar buyout for Texas and Big 12 teams.   The guy has one of Knights quotes tattooed on his back

I have been looking at Beard's offensive stats at TT and it really doesn't look much different from Archie's.  His teams didn't shoot a lot of 3's and their FG attempts and makes doesn't rank real high in the country.

The top 4-5 prospects are all obviously upgrades but Beard is the least exciting to me for that reason.  I'm positive his teams would compete well in the B1G, but I'm not sold that they would stand out from the pack was well as they have (a couple years anyway) in the Big 12.

Beard's Raiders tied for a regular season once.  Their EE year they were 11-7 in conference.

That particular year the Big 12 sent 7 schools...2 of them were 8-10.

I guess I don't understand why the constant conference record reference.

SIAP. I know we are all hopeful for Brad Stevens, but Beard would be a good fit IMO. He certainly has the personality, here is a cool interview of him right before the national championship game two years ago.

RMK tramp stamps have GOT to be rare. I'm not sure how I feel about this nugget.

I'm not too excited about Beard but, he does appear to be an upgrade over Archie.

Among other things I worry about his recruiting in an entirely different region than he knows.

I'm guessing he doesn't have it located just above his crack like an actual tramp stamp. Even if he did, since it is a quote, it would be a** antlers not a tramp stamp anyway, lol.

Take a look at where Lubbock is located and then tell us you honestly think someone who can convince any talented players to go there would have trouble recruiting to Bloomington instead. Assistant coaches are typically hired for their recruiting connections anyway.
