Who cares about cost of living, he got a $3-$3.5 million dollar raise.  I’m pretty sure that covers the cost of living

That brings him from $4mm a year to 7.5mm per year. Exactly what IU was offering correct???

There was a drive by poster earlier today that said “On to plan B”. When asked to clarify he said “you won’t believe how close we came”. He appears to have been right.

That was Hoosier987.

The mods had to rescue him from some nastiness.

Some (not you) didn’t take the time to consider he had a real source and was speaking from some knowledge. The mods knew he did.

You don’t believe we got outbid and that’s exactly what happened so there’s that.

Then tell me what is his rumored salary now?   Why wouldn’t we match?  I can’t believe he is getting Pop money

Do you mind if I ask what level of certainty you have that he was actually given a raise?

Not questioning you at all and I'm in the group that truly appreciates your info. It ended up not being true (at least for the moment). Not your fault, brother

If we got out outbid that’s pathetic for everyone involved: IU didn’t have the desire or ability to actually pay for top talent, for Brad is really was just about the money, and Boston had to raise Brad’s salary less than a year after an extension because a college came calling. lol.

Way Off topic but I’m back living in Madison, IN (hometown) after this darn pandemic if anyone ever needs to drown their IU sorrows with someone and go to the Original Hinkles :103:

I’m not sure they have to announce it.  But maybe they do, I hope they have to

This may sound far fetched but with Beard coaching in Bloomington, do you think that close circle who know sent out all this info did it as a smoke screen for Beard? It’s sounds cynical but they could’ve just leaked it to close friends so nothing was ever official just to keep Beard under wraps for the tournament?

That's kind of been my thought whole time. Especially with Beard gushing about Assembly Hall and not commenting on other jobs.

I think it was the way he said it...if it’s “you won’t believe how close we came” then just say the story.

I’m new here and don’t know any of the posters so I have no clue who’s credible and who isn’t. I just read and try to decide for myself what to believe. But yea he caught some grief and it appears he knew exactly what he was saying.

I'm not going to go digging but there were things at his stint at New Mexico, not like the Iowa incident, but his personal character isn't the image he portrays.  For me, it's not just Iowa that turns me off on Alford.

There is an anti mob mentality against Alford on this board. Just seems rampant an unwarranted.

Me too I’m glad I’m not alone, people around me think I’m digging too deep but this would be the ultimate smoke screen and it would look legit which is why the insiders and their sources are stunned. Cynical but that’s what it looks like.

This has been my only point in the last few pages. By all indications, there are a handful of very savvy, successful, experienced people involved in this process. Surely they anticipated a counter or a last ditch effort from Boston to retain him. That happens even with entry level employees giving notice every day. Did we really go into this with a "first and final" offer strategy?

It is what it is at this point. I for one really appreciate everything you and @Chris007 have brought the last few days. The whole thing just smells bad to me right now.
