Like me some Dennis Gates. Not sure he is the big personality for IU, but anyone that can finally convince Tamar Bates to block out & develop some sense of a nose for the ball while rebounding deserves a look.  Bates may overplay passing lanes and over help as he's done in the past, however, I'll leave that up to he and Gates. With 3 or 4 games to left to go in regular season, I believe I read Bates's lips to say, "Make sure you block out" when they were lined up for a free throw. I 'bout fell off the couch.

That is my way of saying there’s absolutely no guarantees about anything. It’s all potential information and clued towards potential choices.

I accurately shared based on credible information from someone not affiliated with IU a few days ago.

Since then, have you heard there’s a better possibility of Stevens?

If so, and that info turns out to not be right, that’s fine. Just curious.

Anybody else like a kid on Christmas morning right now?

Not Christmas morning yet....more like Dec. 21...I'm poking around the basement closet where mom and dad hid our "stuff".  Dreaming of finding the Millennium Falcon, but all I'm seeing is an unwrapped Operations Game that looks cool but not what I wanted.

In the end....I got the Millennium Falcon...they knew to hide the really cool gift and what I wanted in their best hiding spot.  Yeah...that's what I'm hoping this is now.

Thanks for your comment! I know a lot of us talked about Brad Stevens for quite a while, so if Collins would be the next coach, many fans would be disappointed, but I wouldn't be. Collins knows how to navigate Big 10, and with much better talents, I think he'd do very well here.

Collins is extremely underrated as a coach.

with a change in NIL and transfer portal, he could be looking for a new location. Northwestern was already difficult with the academic requirements. Without question, the guy can coach. In their entire history, they have been to the NCAA tournament three times - all under Collins..

I know nothing but I think today is when the lid comes off and tomorrow we officially have a coach.

but then again, I could just need coffee

At the latest we should know by Monday as that’s when the portal officially opens. If we somehow don’t know by then, I’d think the most likely reason is simply that our new coach is still coaching.

The wait really shouldn’t be much longer, people spinning themselves up over nothing.

I agree with you. Obviously, Chris Collins is not a sexy choice, but considering the level of talent he's been forced to work with, there are a few positive things. (1) He is a pretty good motivator (2) His teams play hard nosed defense because that's pretty much the only way he can win (3) From offensive standpoint, Collins seems to utilize his players' talents well and he can tweak based on what he's got.

With that said, it's kind of a mystery why he hasn't attracted job offers.

The thing you have to wonder about Collin’s is if he can come here and leverage IU’s resources in recruiting the way he and K did at Duke when he was recruiting there. If he could do that and build out rosters like Knight did with the best kids from Indiana and the contiguous states with the occasional nation-wide 5* like K did, he could build a monster. You fill out the rest of the roster with the Barnhizers, McIntoshes, and Leals of the state.

I mean any coach could theoretically do that, but I say Collin’s specifically because he’s lived it up close with K, has the regional recruiting network already, and we know he has the coaching chops to succeed in the B1G.

He’s my one dark horse candidate that I can talk myself into returning IU to its former glory not only in accomplishments but in “style.”

(FWIW, my only other 3 are Stevens, Wright and Bennett. I think success under the other coaches is possible but looks and feels different)

Rabby probably did get a text. I think we’re going to land a coach out of left field that’s going to cause big excitement

I still think the most likely story here is that Tucker is transferring, and Rabby caught wind of it, but the Tucker family didn’t want it known as they’re currently using Indianas NIL position as additional negotiation leverage against other schools to get a better offer.

edit: was covering the Rabby/Tucker bit, no clue about what Rabby has said about the coach.

"IF" "COULD" ....nope.....There is a big gap between your "other 3" and Collins.....My lord, we have lost our minds.

He claimed he got texts from two different people last night that “it’s done.” Curry Hicks was also doing a podcast and essentially said it’s not McCollum or the other names mentioned but either DeVries or the “mystery candidate.”

I'd be perfectly fine with DD, I would personally prefer McCollum. That said, if the noise coming out from national rumor mills is that it is done, I think you can tea leaves that to what our people here have said which is essentially that it has been done for weeks. If that is the case, it is someone big. If it just got signed, it's probably Devries.

We may have to wait to see if Iowa chooses DeVries or McCollum, then we'll get the leftovers....that may be how far IU Basketball has fallen?

Well, yes, Monday at the latest would be the intelligent thing to do so portal players can know that we have a coach and who it is…

I am operating on the assumption (a BIG assumption, I understand ) that this coaching hire could (would?) send shockwaves through the CBB landscape.

just one makes opinion, and it could be very wrong

Ok but he's either in the portal or not. And he's not.
