Gone for a few hours to do some work, come back and nothing has changed...still the circular jerkular motion of "I like this guy" and "We know!!!".....and no news from anyone who knows anything.....

I'm not inclined to support the idea of McCollum as head coach.
While he may be a great tactician, there is so much more to the IU job in particular and high-major college basketball in general that he has no experience with. And I am more interested in the number of possible candidates who have proven he can handle all the other responsibilities that are part of running a successful high-major program.
McCollum could be great, but I'm not excited about IU being his testing ground.
How dare you question the next legend

If he is honestly as great as some on here claim I fully expect him to be playing in the second weekend of the tournament. Can't wait to watch this coaching savant on Thursday. I am expecting to be in complete amazement of his coaching abilities after what I have read.

He may be the best IU can do IMO

I agree. I used to love coming to this place but it’s changed so much. This search has taught me a lot about people in here. It’s the same people over and over. As I said contribute nothing and complain about everything. At least I’ve made some new friends along the way.

From my absolutely limited vantage point:

There are people like yourself, Jerry, RTZ etc who tell us what you know that I think 99%+ of this board appreciates.

Then there are people like Isaac, and others, who make definitive claims that are most likely purely trolling.

You’d hope that people could differentiate between the two but sadly the negative Nancie’s around here just dump you all into one because at some point people thought it was cool to be negative/contrarian/skeptical etc.

Long story short: 90%+ of this thread is hot garbage, the only true value comes from people like yourself sharing what you hear and I for one appreciate it, even if it’s mainly for entertainment purposes.

For me, it’s too extreme to put that much stock in a single elimination tournament.  Still quite a bit of luck that gets tossed into it.  The body of work is more critical, imo, as any team can get insanely hot with the right draw.  And then you could be stuck in their way.  Us against Syracuse would be one that comes to mind.  I am not saying he is the man or not, but either side trying to pull a gotcha from a single - single elimination tourney is more looking for ammo than outcomes.

So... he is literally coaching a DII team this year. In his interview he said that he put the roster together not expecting short-term success. To boot, Texas Tech's coach (who Drake would face in the next round) credits McCollum for remaking McCasland's offensive system. I'm not going to hold Drake's results against him this year, regardless of who IU hires.

If nothing else this search, and the one four years ago, allows us all to see who’s actually got any sources and who’s on the outside like Rabjohns. Props to Dolson

It’s a free message board and nobody’s going to police what info you choose to believe.
But the ‘take my ball and go home’ if questioned crowd is incredibly weak.
Our next coach Ben McCollum would never recruit you!!

Only a few minutes in, but listening to Mccollum talk is impressive. He has a vision for the types of players he wants and mental toughness. 360 from the King.

He also seems like a normal/likeable guy.

360º would be exactly the same (turning all the way around)... 180º would be the exact opposite (turning half-way around)...

Anyone else immediately ignoring anyone updated flight tracking? Seriously....

Hard to read them if you know the passenger list lol. Charter flights are the hardest compared to the private ones.

I will say this - this program is looking at a near TOTAL rebuild with only a couple of committed recruits coming in.  A huge amount of work will be needed to build a quality roster and it needs to be done bby the new coach.  He also needs to assemble a staff.  In a nutshell, no jacking around.  If the new coach is up to the task he needs to be here with his nose to the grindstone.  Make the decision, get the man in here and get the hell to work!  The portal is only a piece of the workload.
