Man I just can't stand thinking to far down the list of coaches. I think dusty may is the most unlikely to happen imo. I put stevens well ahead of dusty chances of coming here. The only reason to wait a year would be to hire brad Steven's. That makes perfect sense to me. Waiting a year to hire may makes absolutely zero sense. When you think about this reasonably the most logical hire has to be brad Steven's! Dolson had his guy since last year!

A stretch to think it happened that way, but it is funny to think about, especially if the rumors about the way Woody treated Dolson are true. When Woody said he would be the coach until he decided he wasn't, Dolson was sitting there, stone faced, thinking, You fool, you're a dead man walking :D

One thing that I've learned when reading this thread. Outside of Brad Stevens, whomever we hire there is going to be someone upset. We cover the whole spectrum, from coaches being arrested to being too religious, and too young to too old.

The crazy thing is....there are people that would be upset with hiring Brad Stevens because he hasn't been coaching for a while, and he forgot how to do it...

Yea — that was a funny angle.  Brad assembled an NBA title winner that plays some of the most efficient basketball ever played in the history of the sport… and he was gonna be flummoxed by the college game?  Lol.

Because he has a really good gig going. He has recruited players to play for him there, and UM will up his contract significantly

Starting a new job is pretty exhausting between meeting new VIPs/admin, then the actual work and recruiting in college sports on top of off court obligations. You generally just have really “settled in” after a year on a new job. IMO it would be exhausting to think about doing that in back to back years especially when UM and IU are very comparable right now. UM even may have a slight edge. Unless they really want to be in Bloomington I think taking the job at IU only ends up making things more complicated / potentially strained with family

So why do we think Dusty turns us down now?

Because rich people who apparently don’t actually watch the basketball thought Mike Woodson would be better with a six million dollar roster than he was with the NPOY runner up on his team.

Hope I am wrong but it’s hard to see why he’d leave Michigan now. Then again maybe he told his new employer he was planning to bail after one season to go to his alma mater and they needed to make it cheap for him to do so lol

Great point on all that stuff that happens beyond just recruiting and coaching.  Easy to forget about all that.

You also have to figure in, that if Dolson really wanted May that bad, he would have fired Woody and hired him last year. Not saying he doesn’t have interest in May but the fact that he risk losing him, and it appears he did lose him, tells me he felt he would have better options at the end of this season….

Yeah I don’t see it happening. Would love to be surprised though

Thinking, not if I have anything to say about it.
