Capt. Crimson Posted February 18, 2025 Posted February 18, 2025 Announcement at a specific date, time, and tv channel is way too specific to be true imo. It would have leaked so fast if that were the case. Hutch89 1

If push comes to shove, I am glad that Crean got the chance to win after taking on the coaching job when he did. But Stevens would have certainly made the leap, had he been offered in 2011. Of the potentially infinite number of parallel universes that could theoretically exist, in not 1 of them was Crean fired after 2011, Zeller or no Zeller.

This is something that the Wikipedia coaching records can never capture. What does it feel like for this person to be a character in our lives? Crean had some real positives. (Remember him taking McDonald’s to a person outside the restaurant?) But he was stubborn and defensive and awkward and honestly kinda manic. And he was inconsistent, and his trajectory was going down. Recruiting was tailing off locally and nationally. Juwan and OG were diamonds in the rough but we were all tired of an irritating coach who wouldn’t adjust his turnovers or defense and who also needed to find diamonds in the rough. Most days, I remember the good parts of the Crean era. But it was time to move on from him, and it’s worth reflecting on the legit bad parts too. *Aggressively adjusts oversized pants and slams some ambiguous liquid in a dasani bottle* Ctf9 and Pagoda 2

Not that Crean would have deserved to be fired. And almost certainly the administration was not of a mind to do something so mercenary. Not sure it was 100% confirmed, but likely. He has said he was a former IU player and it appears he had a loyalty to Woodson. At first people thought it was Xavier Johnson but looks like that is not the case. Kopp makes sense because regardless of how few shots Kopp was getting (something that 'wasn't Mike Woodson's job' -- Mike Woodson -- Kopp continued to start. I have no problem with Kopp as a player here. I do think he would have been better off going somewhere that actually believed in the three point line. Sobchak_Security and VFury 2

In order for Crean to get fired after those first 2 seasons if he didn't get Zeller, the next three years would have to be pretty much in the middle of the Big Ten and not getting better. One thing that Crean did have going for him is the development a lot of players showed like Oladipo. The player has to have that fire to get better, and the coach needs to throw gas on that fire. Crean had that going for him that the next coach needs. realTomCrean 1

Crean had 7 years left on his contract. He wasn't getting fired in 2011. My theory for why Stevens stayed at Butler 2 more years is that he was waiting to see if Crean made it here. Wishful thinking, maybe.
Hovadipo Posted February 18, 2025 Posted February 18, 2025 SDB isn’t Kopp. There are tweets during OKC Blue games. I find it hard to believe an active GLeaguer playing 30 minutes a game is running a burner that’s that active anyway. Also, just scroll back a couple weeks and he spent a handful of tweets defending Romeo Langford. Pagoda, Hoosierfanyuh, CSP and 4 others 7
