The more I think about this the more I want Beard. We're not hiring someone to teach a moral and ethics class. We're hiring someone to win basketball games. If he can keep his nose clean then it'll be 20 years of excellence. Imagine this time-line: we hire Dusty and in turn UM hires Beard. In the next 5 years IU continues to struggle and May is on the hot seat meanwhile UM has a final 4 and another 2nd weekend trip.

Risky is the correct word and Dolson needs to knock this hire out of the freaking park and McCollum doesn’t do that.  We have already been set back 8 + years since Crean, we can’t afford 4 more years of mediocre, we will lose too many fans and supporters, IMO

IF IU doesn't land Stevens, and hires someone other than McCollum, they will be kicking themselves 5 years from now.  Risky is not hiring someone with 4 National Championships.  Risky would be hiring someone with a history of Domestic Violence.

I think Scott likes having the Beard information out there even if it’s all coming from Beards agent and some friends who are former players. It lets him do his work behind the scenes without people paying attention.

All I keep thinking Dolson is like Snidely Whiplash here…… lol

I feel confident that not only would Beard win here, he would have zero off court issues….but I am so sick of this divided fanbase, it would get even worse with Beard, that’s a shame but it’s true!

I’m hearing good things. If you’re an Eagles fan.

Should we take a poll on how many people didn’t read your 2nd sentence? If it was financial advisors at my work it would be about 93.625% of them who would’ve only read the first sentence LOL

I understand this sentiment, I really do. However, you want to know the best way to get a fan base united? Hang some damn bannners.

Risky would be hiring someone with a history of domestic violence and alcohol abuse.

Risky would also be hiring someone who has quite literally never played against a ranked team, and has never beaten a team in the NET top 40,  and has coached less than 25 division one games. There are tons of coaches that have great success at lower levels. But there are very few that can manage an operation as complex, big money, and involved as Indiana basketball.

That doesn’t mean that McCollum won’t succeed greatly somewhere, it just means that he would be extraordinarily risky for Indiana. There are a whole truckload of options that are neither Chris Beard nor Ben McCollum.

The problem is he hasn’t proven he can recruit at a high level… yes he can coach but he also brought 4 players who he’s coached for years who are comfortable with him. If I knew he could successfully recruit then I totally agree. Winning in the MVC and getting players to buy into your offense is a lot easier to do in that conference… players in the P4 aren’t gonna be so easy to recruit because they know stats is what gets them to the league.

If Beard is ever at IU, it's because Dolson did his due diligence, spoke to the right people, and ultimately felt confident in offering him the job.

Winning changes everything. If he's leading us to Final Fours and raising banners, his past will no longer be the focus—that's the reality.

Agree with this. I doubt it’ll will be Beard but if it is, I’ll trust they did their due diligence. And then root like hell for IU.

I want no part of Beard under any circumstances. Too much baggage and too many unanswered questions about his past for me.
