IU since 2017:  (overall record, conference record, place in conference)

2017–18    16–15    9–9    T–6th
2018–19    19–16    8–12    9th
2019–20    20–12    9–11    T–10th
2020–21    12–15    7–12    T–10th
2021–22    21–14    9–11    9th
2022–23    23–12    12–8    T–2nd
2023–24    19–14    10–10   T–6th

2024--25     18-12      9-10      T-9th

.

73-83 conference record since 2017….I’ve lived through it but it’s still inconceivable to me that IU has circled the drain to such an extent.

I see McDermott as one of the "lower risks" hires we could make, his ceiling just might not be as high as we want.

Exactly how I see it. If we hire McDermott, I’d be pretty optimistic, overall.

At least you don't get told to shut up or stop posting daily.

I think you have good info, just like I think Jerry, RTZ and a few others do. But one side or the other or maybe both are being used as smokescreens. Dolson learned from the last basketball search that too much info was getting out. Appreciate you

Don’t worry about the haters Chris. Keep doing what you do. Anyone that take a message board as the gospel needs to find a better quality of life.

Maybe we start a Creighton pipeline. Ten years of McDermott, followed by his Creighton replacement Huss. Seems like Huss would almost certainly be GMs replacement there.
All aboard the huss bus in 2025

Oh; is it that easy?

As @Uspshoosier has clearly stated, the guy that is "actually the head coach" at Creighton is in charge of

  • a better,
  • more successful program with
  • better attendance than IU, and
  • in a better conference.
  • And his team practices at a building named "The McDermott Center." And he's 60.

AND PEOPLE TURN UP THEIR NOSES AT HIM TOO!

So yes, if we want to "Oumar Ballo/Bryson Tucker/Miles Rice Style" overpay for him? Then we've got a shot with McDermott; but that's the primary way it could happen.

So you think it’s easy to go from being a two year head coach at High Point to taking over the fish bowl at IU?

You were the one telling people to get off their ‘high horse’ gif not jumping on…Alan Huss, someone that doesn’t appear on anyone’s search list for IU.

I can tell you there has been significant donor talk of Beard and TJ.  I can also tell you from past experience that donor talk typically doesn’t mean a whole lot unless it’s from the very, very top donors.

......what else can you tell me?

You mean my $100 donation doesn’t put in a position to be in the know?!?

1) I do not think it's going to be easy for any coach that comes to IU.

2) I am telling people to get off their high horse and not to look down at a guy that could absolutely be a viable candidate.

Not on anyone's search list? Today, ESPN cited a 'full disclosure with guarantee of anonymity' panel of "more than a dozen industry sources involved in the coaching carousel: agents, power brokers, etc. We polled them on the top five names they think are ready to move during the 2025 coaching cycle. The only criteria: The coaches couldn't have been at the high-major level previously, and they couldn't be clients of the voter."

And Alan Huss was the second most qualified out of 20 named. Ahead of Schertz, McMillan, McCollum, etc. So if we decide to go the mid-major route?

Amen, brother. Someone said always be careful of the people with under 200 posts but that's not me I think everyone has good intentions. Anymore I said I'm hearing good things about a basketball search and I'm attacked. It didn't used to be that way. But I am hearing good things

This always happens around coach hiring cycles. We get an influx of outside posters who are here to feed off of the info. When things don’t pan out they get vitriolic.

That usually dies down early into the offseason and this site gets back to its original core of posters (+/- a few new faces) that get along just fine.

just have to bite down on the leather for now.

I still think they’re being sent here to shoot something down whenever it comes up.  It’s happened too many times now.

I still keep coming back to the one poster whose kid talked with Brads parents somewhere. IU was brought up and his dad said Brad could never do that to Butler! That cuts deep, also is why I’ve moved on from Brad. Would love to be surprised though!

If you came here for inside info, well I feel sorry for you. At least you aren't paying for it on Peegs.

You should feel sorry for a guy that keeps coming back to a site for inside info, while claiming the site has no inside info though.  At least he’s not doing that, because that would indicate a real lack of intelligence…

I just don't think the Archie argument is a very good one for discrediting, for lack of a better term, every midmajor coach.

Jay Wright, Bill Self, Coach K, Bob Knight, Scott Drew, Pitino, Billy Donovan and a massive list past those individuals.... all came from a midmajor.

Nobody said “every” midmajor coach. But midmajors are risky and low majors like Stu posted, even more . Nobody should know that better than IU fans. We have run the gamut from Knight to Archie. The failures out number the successes probably in the neighborhood of 10:1.

There’s not going to be one stat or profile that’s dispositive. If there were it’d be easy and anybody can do it. You have to have an AD that is a top basketball mind or lucky as ****. Fred Glass was a basketball moron. We’ll find out about Dolson soon enough.

The only way to tilt the odds in your favor outside of  that is to hire a proven P5 guy. For IUs expectations that list is short: Drew, Bennett, Wright, Donovan, Stevens…That’s about it. The odds are really small for each one but thankfully you only need one. If Dolson doesn’t know basketball lets hope like hell he’s a big game closer.

If he’s neither a top basketball evaluator or closer, let’s pray he has a horseshoe up his @$$.
