We had two good rounds of religion and John Calapari yesterday. We might need to change the name of this thread to off-topic. Hopefully, those leaks keep rolling out today. I'm sure everyone is starting to hear them. :-)

We need rumors so badly today. Yesterday was a complete off-topic clusterf*ck.

And I mean that in the most respectful way, my dear Mods. LOL

Serious question regarding McDermott: How would you rate him compared to Matt Painter?  On the surface they appear to be similar in accomplishments.  I ask not advocating for or against, just as a guage.  My pedestrian view is that GM wouldn't be in the top tier of names we've tossed around, but also not in the bottom tiers either.

Painter is better but Painter has had Big Ten pedigree and resources for 20 years.

Don’t have my connections anymore and since moving to St. Louis, I get no leakage…..

A big one.  He’s old and may not be around much longer.  Had one shot at a P5 job and he flopped miserably.  His personality is a bad fit too.

The bold is a myth.

He's younger than Cignetti lol

I would take McDermott. I don't fancy fouling basketball.

I’ll just say this, and people can think what they want regarding the quality of my fandom, but I think IU is taking a major risk if this is the route they choose.  I am a late 80s IU grad and I have been a huge fan since the mid 70s.  In other words, I am in the age group that grew up witnessing the potential of this program, and firmly believe everything is still in place to still be achieving at least close to that level (with the right coach, of course).  I have a funny feeling that many my age, and especially those of us in northern Indiana, have little interest in 6-8 years of somewhat improved but still underachieving mediocrity, with a promise of better days ahead if we just hang in there 6-8 more years, especially given that there is an IU grad killing it in his first year just to the north of us.  I am about at the end of my rope after 30 years of donating to and supporting a program that has consistently made decisions that led to underachievement.  So I really hope the administration is taking into consideration the chance they may lose a chunk of the fan base if something like this is in their plans.

I get t where you're coming from... and you are not alone... Woodson was supposed to be a "bridge" hire... a bridge to where? To quote politicians in campaign season. "are we better off now than we were four years ago?" ... Is where we are today farther along in our quest for relevance than we were when we fired Archie 4 years ago? I don't see it.

Hiring another "bridge" coach is a recipe for more failure and irrelevance. We don't necessarily need a "big name", but we need someone who has proven success and worked is way up through the ranks to be the guy. We don't need a guy on the downhill side of his career - a guy like Few might be the answer, but he might not be able to relate to the midwest... and how long will he remain in the game? The same goes for guys who have walked away - guys like Jay Wright and Tony Bennett...

With all of that said, I don't know who Dolson will hire, but I trust that he will get it right.

Painter is better, period!

a risk is going with Greg McDermott?

A risk is trying to sell us on 6-8 years of top 4-5 Big 10 finishes and put off our aspirations of being a dominant program again.  And I agree with the poster, that’s what McDermott would bring.  Unless, God forbid, he brings whatever he brought to Iowa State.

I think McDermott would quickly fix the end of game fades that have cost IU too many close games this season.  I also think he could stop the pre-conference bloodletting we have experienced under Woodson.  Would McDermott have IU competing at the elite eight / final four level?  I think that is the unknown but his record certainly indicates consistently competing in conference year after year.

I think kids in this state would gobble up the opportunity to play in his offenses.

Could be.  I watched their game last night.  Lots of turnovers against a very poor team.  They showed a stat that Creighton’s turnover margin is minus 4.4 per game, which is one of the worst in the country.

The wiz…uh, the wiz of Otz.    We’re off to leak the wizard…the wonderful wizard of Otz.  We hear he is a wiz of a coach if ever a coach there was.   If ever oh ever a coach there was…the wizard of Otz is one because….because because because because….because….because of all of the games he’s won!!
