Wouldn't that be wild if we had a Catholic priest on the BTB board? Wonder what he'd think of all this religion talk

Nah. That'd never happen. We're all heathens. Oh, wait, nevermind...LOL

"Mr. Unexpected: At least two basketball insiders told me this is where IU will find its coach. A guy that nobody is discussing. A veteran coach who is looking for a challenge. A guy eager to embrace the job of succeeding where Mike Woodson and Archie Miller failed."

Here are the names in the article:
Scott Drew
TJ Otzelberger
Mick Cronin
Brad Brownell
Ben McCollum
Greg McDermott
Chris Beard (unlikely)
Buzz Williams
Chris Collins
Will Wade (did say this wouldn't happen)
Tony Bennett (unlikely)

So who is everyone's "Mr. Unexpected"?  And if someone says Turgeon.......

Others have mentioned Few, Wright, Brad, and Self. I'd add Oats.

As a preacher I would love for our next coach to genuinely love Jesus in such a way that he does NOT have to preach sermons to his team or demand they go to church with him, but RATHER that they see he walks with integrity, class, and respect… that he treats everyone (from the 5star recruit to the water boy) with compassion and kindness. That he has a reputation for looking out for the good of others BUT also works hard and is willing to model self-sacrifice for the benefit of others. A saint once said, “Preach the word and when necessary use words.”

It’s true we are hiring a coach, but there’s also more to life than basketball. So, I’d like a coach who will model the kind of values that make the world a better place.

Nailed it.

I'd be shocked if we hire someone who hasn't been at least mentioned on this board. And if so, that's probably not a good sign. I mean, we've seriously discussed Turgeon and Groce, for goodness sakes.

What scares is last year and out of nowhere Woodson is the next coach.

Have we talked about Dolson’s good buddy Mr Steve Alford?

The revenue sharing cap is the same, regardless of conference. The difference is that the B1G and SEC schools will likely go to the cap. The B12 and ACC schools may also, but it would be harder for them to do.

Where IU gets the edge is that they've said they'd take the B1G average (or maybe it was the median?) going to basketball and double that. So they're willing to commit a larger percentage of the revenue share with basketball while many schools will be concentrating on football.

IU has also shown that they have a large pool of NIL money for the basketball team.

In addition, the large amount of money coming in to the athletic department means that they should be able to at very least keep up if not exceed other conferences in terms of facilities, pay, other staff positions such as GM to make coaching life a bit easier, etc.

I would think football moving forward is going to be emphasized with rev share also, so not sure how all that will balance under the $20.5M cap.  And while yes, there’s been healthy NIL for basketball, the NCAA is looking to monitor collectives more closely to be certain the cap isn’t being violated with “pay for play”.  In other words, those contracts will be examined more closely to be sure the student athlete is “earning” the $$.
